Definitive Pro Cinema 1000s.

I have heard Definitive Pro Cinema 600 series speakers and they were pretty good. I liked their look and the size is very similar to the bookshelf speaker size I want. However, I have enough money to buy the Pro Cinema 1000 series. Are the Pro Cinema 1000 series worth $2000? What else is comparable in price and better in sound? I want them to sound great for both movies and music.

The def techs are great, but also check out the speaker packages from SVS.

The DTs are good. If you go this route, I'd go with the ProMonitor 1000s, & ProCenter 2000 for your space. But I would also go for an SVS PB10-NSD sub instead of the DT sub.

I still think an Ascend Acoustics system (23-2000) will perform better and be less expensive. These speakers are slightly bigger than the DTs but smaller than the ones I previously recommended.

I think you will get better sound quality, but for $2,000, I would personally most definitely get Tower speakers.

I love DefTech also. In fact, I plan on buying two more BP7000SCs for my rear surrounds.

But I would not spend $2,000 ANY satellite/monitor system.

I'm trying not to recommend just DefTech to anyone. AV123, Axiom, SVS, are always good options.

But since you prefer DefTech, just like me, I would recommend this (if you cannot accomodate a 42" Center Speaker & feel you must have a Sub):

DefTech BP10B x2 for Front Left & Right (retail is $500 ea, street $400)
DefTech SM450 x3 for Center, SUR Left & Right ($330 retail, $250 street)
DefTech ProSub1000 ($500 retail, $400 street)
Total: $1,950.

BP10B: 20Hz-20kHz (+/-6dB), 25Hz-20kHz (+/-3dB)
SM450: 47Hz-20kHz (+/-3dB)
PS1000: 29-150Hz (+/-3dB)

But PERSONALLY, I would get this for my own system if I had a $2,000 budget: BP10B x 5. This baby can cover 20Hz-20kHz @ 90dB +/-6dB. Talk about a FULL RANGE speaker system!

So this is one DefTech fan's suggestion to another another DefTech fan.

Have you shopped the Mythos series from DefTech? I really like DefTech, and when I first saw the Mythos I thought... gimmicky, these things can't possibly produce a good soundstage or a full sound. But when I heard them I was blown away. They have an incredible midrange, and for a relatively small set of drivers they produce a decent full range of sound. With an external sub they are just amazingly full and warm sounding.

I paid a little more than your budget, I think $2600 for a pair of Mythos-1 towers, Mythos-3 center, Gems for surrounds, and SuperCube-2 sub. DefTech has since come out with Gem XLs, which are a bit bigger, but the original Gems do a pretty good job.

If you want smaller towers, you can go with Mythos-4 towers and save another $500 or so.

If you look beyond DefTech, there are also great speakers from Paradigm in similar form factor and size, but usually more money. PSB also makes some great speakers in relatively small form factors.
