Definitive Mythos 10 with BPVX

I looking at the following config :

Front : Left, Right and Center : Mythos 10
Rear(left & Right) : Definitive BPVX
Sub : Super cube Reference
Amp : Denon 4308CI

My question is if the Rear has to match the Mythos with Gems XL or should I stick to BPVX?

In my experience with a 7.1 setup is the rear sr don't get a workout like the sr fronts, the fronts and center...I would keep those as least expensive of all..

The DTs are supposed to be timbre matched across the lines so it shouldn't matter. Unless you have a huge room, the BPXs should be sufficient.

The surround channels don't get a lot of action even when they are fully engaged. I compared the BP10B towers with the SM450s for surround channels running full range. I watched Resident Evil Extinction & Pirates At Worlds End on Blu-ray. I also listened to a DVD-A of Sheryl Crow. The surround channels were very busy, especially with the two movies. But I could not tell much difference between the SM450s and the BP10Bs, although the BP10Bs are more full range (20Hz-20kHz +/-5dB vs. 47Hz-20kHz +/-3dB).
My conclusion is that the surround channels just don't require very much. To me the only issue with the surround channels is the aesthetics -- how they look with the rest of the speakers.

I think I will stick to BPVX. But what does 'timbre matched' mean? Where can I read about this.

Timbre matched means voice matched, it means the speaker has the same tonal balance between all speakers.

I doubt you'll notice much difference for surrounds. I'm in the process of building a basement HT right now and purchased a Def Tech 7 (don't have the .1 yet) system. I was eager to listen to the new speakers, so I have temporarily replaced my PSB Stratus fronts/centre in the current HT with the Def Techs, but left the PSB dipole surrounds since this is only a temporary set up. It sounds great, even with the Def Tech/PSB mismatch. The most important match is the fronts with the centre channel.
