Default Budget speakers to mount in a living room for music

I recently bought my first home and I'm wanting to get some speakers set up in my living room (and probably kitchen also). I like the idea of mounting the speakers on my wall because I have 3 kids under 4, therefore I’m also on a budget. I’m trying to stay under $150. I’m going to use these mostly for listening to music, radio & podcasts. I will not have them hooked up to a TV.
So I'm looking for advice on what the best option is.
Option #1: In ceiling/wall mounted speakers -- I’ve been looking mostly at used speakers and it is hard to find used flush-mount speakers so I would probably have to buy these new. But in order to get anything good, seems like I’d have to shell out a good deal of cash. I’m also not too keen on cutting big holes in my walls or ceiling.
Option #2: Satellite speakers on wall and subwoofer in the corner -- I’ve thought about buying a 5.1 system and using 2 satellites, 1 center and 1 subwoofer in the living room, and then use just the remaining 2 satellites for the kitchen (if this would even sound good, not sure). Something like the Polk Audio RM6750 system. I can get these used on ebay for about $100.
Option #3: Mountable Small Loudspeakers -- These would be speakers that were built to be mounted, such as Bose 161 or Polk Audio OWM3. Either pair runs about $100 too.
Option #4: Small Bookshelf speakers and buy mounting hardware -- This one is probably the most wide open because there are many options. I would buy some little Klipsch, Polks, Infinities, or B&W’s (if the price is right) or whatever. Then also purchase some mounting hardware. Amazon seems to have a variety of options for Speakers Mounts.
What would you guys do?

(I also posted this in the "Loudspeakers" section, but I'm also definitely a beginner in terms of audiophilia)

Yes, bookshelf speakers would be the best choice IMO, for music. The SVS SBS-02 has an integrated mounting tab and they are what I would call typical size bookshelf with decent bass for their size. They are also sealed which is better for placing on/near walls:

Most wall mounts for speakers that don't include mounting options means screwing into the speaker - generally not something I like to do. A smaller bookshelf or satellite means you will need a sub, so find something with decent bass if a sub is not part of the picture.

For the kitchen, in-ceiling is fine.
