Hello, I'm getting ready to purchase some speakers and it looks like some of you around here have experience with Definitive Technology speakers.
I currently have the 7006 towers, they have the 8" subwoofer with the 4 1/2 mid/bass.

I'm going to purchase a center channel. Was thinking about the clr2500 or the clr3000, I'm worried they might over power the towers to much. But I can get the center channel for 50% off so the clr3000 would cost around $550. Any suggestion? Or should I stick with the CLR2300 since the midrange woofers are 4 1/2 and they match my current towers?

I'm also going to purchase 4 in ceiling speakers. I have it narrowed down to the UIW 63/ or the UIW 64/a, not sure what the main difference is between them except price. Also these would be at a 50% discount off retail pricing. So price would not be a huge issue.

I'm hoping the Denon 3808 would enough to power these speakers. Thanks in advance for the help guys. Room is about 15x20'.

I have the CLR 3000 in my main system and it is fantastic, but in your case I would probably go with the CLR 2500. I just replaced my CLR2002 with a CLR2300 as it is a better match for my BP7006 tower in my bedroom system. You can always turn the sub level down so that it doesn't overpower the rest of your system, but you should keep all the speakers level matched anyway. You would still be ok with a CLR2300, but since you can get them for half off, get the one that is a little bigger. Even though the BP7006 towers are small, they are still little powerhouses, and will not be overpowered by the larger centers, but the CLR3000 is so big it wouldn't be an asthetic match so much and may stand out a bit.

Also, that Denon will push all those speakers witih ease.

Thanks for the reply. I will go ahead and purchase the clr 2500 center then.

What about the side and rear surrounds? What makes the UIW 64/a's better then the 63/A's? Are they worth the extra cost? The pair of 64/a's would cost me $70 more then the 63/A's.

thanks again for the help!

The only real difference I can see between the two in wall/in ceiling speakers is the 64/a has a pivoting tweeter and the 63/a doesn't. The pivoting tweeter will help you get better imagaing, but that may be difficult to adjust by yourself, since you can't sit in the sweet spot and adjust the tweeter at the same time. Just go with the 63/a and be done with it. The 64/a also shows 2 hz. lower frequency response, but they should be crossed over anyway, so that is irrelevant.

Same Situation -- Get the 300CLR it is AWESOME!

I have a very similar situation. I have 7002 Towers and bought the CLR3000 because I watch a lot of TV and DVDs and wanted a great center channel with clear voice and dialog. Yes, the CLR3000 can over power the fronts, but when you adjust the level down a little it is Perfect ;) ;) . The 3000 CLR is awesome and I am very, very glad I got it! (FWIIW, I replaced 2006 towers ( predessor to 7006; actually moved to media room sHT system) and the CLR3000 would have worked with them also).

One word of caution the CLR3000 is pretty heavy, about 55 lbs, make sure your shelve of stand is braced to support it!

Good Luck ... I know you will make the RIGHT choice ... Enjoy your new CLR3000 :)

The Denon 3808 should drive it fine. The ceiling speakers are really for presence and either will work. I have some Def Tech ceiling speakers for surround front and rear, the bipolar model, don't remember exactly something like UWBP.

Center speaker is the most important for movies

This is kind of an off-note, but here it is.

The other day I watched an episode of Smallvile on blu-ray. After the episode was over, I went to turn off my system when I noticed that the power to my BP7000SCs was NOT even on!

I thought, "What the heck?"

So I went to my amps and noticed that my Denon amps that controlled the front L+R was switched to a different source!!! The reason was because I had previously listened to by DVD-5910CI 2.0 CD music.

So I had watched an entire episode of Smallvile BD with just the Center (CLR3000), 2 surrounds (BP7001), and a subwoofer (Trinity). And I didn't even notice that the Main Front Left & Right were OFF?

I guess what they say is true: The center speaker IS the most important speaker for movies.

Still not conviced that the CLR3000 would be the best match for the BP7006 towers. But it depends on the room, and what the center speaker will be sitting on. But any of the center channels with a sub would serve him well.

GlocksRock ,

Good points, My CLR3000 sits in a cabinet on a shelf (reenforced!, before i reenfroced it was bending the shelf  ) and since it is black it blends in as "open space" and it can be heard, but not seen!

I agree, any Def Tech CLR would be good and I think OP decided on the CLR2500 while I was busy slowly typing  my first response

I have watched many movies using $25 Sony speakers as my mains and letting the Paradigm center and the Servo handle most of the content. Not as good as my real system but not that bad either. That's why I say HT is easy but music is not. (this was all done only because my digms were in the hospital at the time)

Now it can get interesting.

Right now, I don't own a center, in fact, I only have two working speakers, a pair of Primus 360s. They are properly placed with some treatments in the room.

Due to the high quality horizontal dispersion capabilities of the Primus 360s I have never once missed the center channel (I don't do any music listening with these) regardless of my seating location or if I move during the movie. Whats more interesting is occasionally there will be ambient effects that seem to be coming behind the seating location. I have had guests turn around during movies looking for surround speakers as well as ask how the sound is so perfectly centered when they couldn't see the third speaker upfront.

Excuse me?

$25 Sony speakers?

No Audioholic should even have such things in his house!:D

The use of a center channel is more of a personal preference than a necessity. I still prefer a good high quality center channel that is timbre matched to the main L & R speakers. When I was waiting on my CLR2300 to show up, I really missed having a center channel as using only the BP7006 towers sounded good, it just seemed like something was lacking, and pans didn't have as much effect as they should.

I have tried using the phantom mode and cant stand it. When things start panning between the front 3, there is a big difference.

That's because my speakers have better dispersion that yours :p:cool:.

When I get around to it I will build myself a center channel just for fun and added dynamics, but I don't miss it. So there are other, more important, projects in the works..

I'll throw my 2 cents in... I have the 7002's and 2500... I have to say I get a lot... I mean a lot of sound out of the center. Suffering though Cloverfield was hard, but the sound was absolutely crushing. I did not feel once that the 2500 was being overshadowed by the towers.

I'm thinking the CLR2500 will be a better fit for the room and also to compliment the 7006 towers. It is a litter bigger then the CLR2300 which would match the 7006 towers.

Now if I could decide between the two surrounds the UIW 63/a and the 64/a. I not sure how much difference there will be and if the 64/a are worth the extra money, from what I understand they are the same size.
