According to the manual, (http://definitivetech.com/documents/manuals/C/L/R 2002/CLR2002_Manual.pdf), it does not have a powered sub.

It looks like it's a typo on the website. It mentions a subwoofer in the heading, but nothing in the driver specs or other info.

While it may be called a subwoofer, and may fit the definition of a subwoofer, it should not be used as such. It is mainly a powered woofer for frequencies below its 120 Hz crossover.

I have the CLR2002 in my main HT system and no it doesnt have a subwoofer or a woofer of any kind. It has two 5.25" mid range drivers and one 1" tweeter, the enclosure itself helps with deep bass extension . I used Audyssey on my Onkyo 805 and it set my center to Large, so my Onkyo sense it could achieve full bass below 40Hz (final crossover point before Audyssey sets things to Large.

Since it does have dual 5.25 I just set mine to crossover at 80Hz so that i am not pounding those mid range drivers, and hopefully will extend the life of the drivers. But these could easily be set to 60Hz with no problems or distortion whatsoever.

From reading the large DT thread over at AVS, it appears that it's 50/50 with some members love the added bass of the sub, while others prefer to have the outboard sub handle the lower frequencies. I think it's a great center speaker and although smaller mid range drivers than my DT7001sc, I have not notived any timbre problems.
