I listened to a pair of Def Tech BP 2000s yesterday, very nice. I wonder if they were all powered the same or if there were different sub-models with different amps, I got confused when I went searching for info by the TL designation I sometimes saw. He wants $1500 each for them, they are pretty kick-*** I think. I understand they are discontinued and replaced by the 7000 series.

larry7995,
I have had a set of the Def Tech BP 2000TL's for about 4 years now. I am extremely pleased with their performance in my listening use for both movies and music. My speakers have the internal subwoofer powered with a 500 watt amplifier. I am not aware of any differences in amplifier or other components within the same model of speakers. That is something you might want to contact Def Tech about. I find the dual subwoofers in front provide a balanced effect on bass especially with movie soundtracks. I also find the Bi-Polar configuration to really fill my very large volume living room easily. As you may know this configuration has both proponents and opponents in the industry and on the forums. You will also find both positive and negative comments about this brand while you research. Just as I have found when researching any brand of component be it receiver, speaker, DVD player etc. To each his own! I personally am glad there are so many fine choices for every component. If you like the sound and are happy with the price, then someones else's comments should not affect your decision. You can pay a lot less or a lot more for other speakers and some might say you can buy better but that is only opinion. Let your own ears decide and then pull out the plastic. I paid the same amount you mentioned for my speakers when purchased new. No regrets here.

I have paired the BP 2000TL fronts with a C/L/R/ 2500 center and BPVX surrounds from Def Tech. I just purchased a Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K receiver as a stepping stone system two weeks ago and find this combination works very well. This alone has been a major upgrade from a 12 year old Pioneer DD receiver and really makes the speakers perform like I have never heard in the past. Since I am only running a 5.1 system at this time I will soon be experimenting with passive bi-amping the fronts as the BP 2000's have high/mid/low binding posts as well as a separate LFE input. I do anticipate a receiver upgrade in the future when I switch from my Mitsubishi RPTV (component inputs only) most likely to a DLP model with HDMI capability. Realisticly that will be a year or two down the road. At that time I will be looking for a new receiver with HDMI switching but I do not anticipate purchase of different speakers for a very long time. My audio/video purchases tend to remain fixed for a decade or two before I make a change! I might add a set of BPVXP's to the sides and move the BPVX's to the rear at that time to complete a 7.1 setup but that would be my only upgrade to the speaker system. I thougth I would respond to your inquiry with my story of satisfaction with the Def Tech speakers. Good luck with your decision.

For almost that price you can pick up a set of new BP 7001 SCs. I picked up the 7001SCs with the CLR 3000 and BPXVs. I've never heard the BP2000s, but the 7001s are superb. I think the 7001s are each powered by a 1300W subwoofer.

BP 2000's

I have had my set for several years and they are great. I don't know if I would pay 1500 each for them? I paid less for mine (floor models). I use a DefTech clr 2000 and 2002 matched with BPX's. You could contact DefTech and ask them. Try Chet cpelkowski@definitivetech.com, he is a good guy and very knowledgeable. I suggested to Chet they host a user Forum about their products for us DefHeads. if you think that is a good idea please mention it to him.

They sound great, excellent for movies and music and the bass is more than enough for me, a movie with good effects, like Jurassic park, wow. Also, very musical. I have used both an AVR (Denon 3805 and separates (Parasound AVC 2500u and HCA 2105 multi-channel amp) with good results. They are very efficient and bi-wirable. Love 'em

Does bi-wiring make a difference on these speakers?
Bi-wiring doesn't make a difference on any speaker, as long as your cable is of sufficient gauge.

The speakers are designed to be bi-amped, which does make a huge difference. The price does sound a bit high. If they paid full retail and are used speakers you should be paying no more than about half of MSRP for it to be a deal since you don't get the warranty or any of the benefits of a 'new' speaker.

I have owned a pair of Def Tech BP7002s with the 300W built in Subs and the CLR 2500 with the BP2X surrounds for about 2 years now. Fantastic speakers in my opinion. I also use the Denon 3805 for my pre/pro and Parasound Halo A51 for my amplifier. I have the Integra DPC 8.5 DVD changer which I use for movies and SACD/DVD Audios.

Multi channel music is awsome on this system as well as movies. I have over 190 DVD Audio and SACD titles and that's pretty much all I listen to these days.

FYI, full retail on a pair of BP 7002s is $2200.00.

Have fun shopping.
