Hello all,

I am having a problem with the art in my theater area being vibrated against the wall with certain frequencies in movies and music. I never had this problem until I got my "real" sub:D Other that the stuff vibrating, I love the sub and it's sound.

My question is, how do you guys with "real" subs deal with wall art and such that vibrates and shaked from the bass?

I have a "tin" wall hanging that I was thinking about putting some rubber pads behind, kind of like what you do with a center channel. I am not sure what to do with large paintings and such.

Any suggestions or examples of what you do would be helpful.

Thanks much,

Pat

I hung the pictures using two anchors each to distribute the load on the picture wire. Then I put 1/2" foam behind the lower part of the frame to keep it off the wall. I even used the foam between my leaning shelf and the wall. No vibrations.

The smaller items I used small self-adhesive cork pads on the back corners.

My walls are 6" metal stud walls with 5/8" drywall and fiberglass insulation to help keep the vibrations out of the rest of the house.

I have a lot of art in my HT/LR area. It is all professionally framed, and hence comes standard with clear rubber bumpers on the lower corners. I also install anchors and screws to hang the art, as I don't trust a nail and hook. I have not had vibrating resonance problems from the art in my listening area.
Still, the art I have on the wall that houses the whole front end of the HT, (display, fronts and center, plus rack) is being pulled down to remove the reflective glass and will be replaced with sound panels made from O/C 704 fiberglass......just gotta make the durn things.........

Thanks for the advice guys. I really noticed it last night with the raised "tin" wall hanging we have up. Some bass scenes (namely music) from Deja Vu was vibrating that thing quite a bit. It must be just a certain frequency that does it, as master and commander did not vibrate it at all:confused:

I will try the bumpers behind the frames. I think I may put a rubber washer or something between the frame and anchor and the frame and wall for that wall hanging in question. We have a huge painting without a frame that I will try the bumpers on.

Framed pictures

Another idea, you could always put the foam or bumpers on the wall vs. on the unframmed artwork so you don't effect the value.

I removed the rubber bumpers behind the framed pictures because they allow the frame to "bounce" on the wall with vibrations. The medium density foam has more flex and cushioning. Also using two hanging points helps out.

The only thing that vibrates now is one of my lightsabers. Still trying to figure out how to stop that. I've used felt pads with good success in the past for lightweight items.

The foam I have is in sheets. I cut it into blocks and placed it between the frame and the wall. No adhesive needed. The weight of the picture holds it there.

I will give that a go. Do you get that at Michael's or some craft place like that?

Seriously, I have no life.

It would depend on how it is mounted. Is it framed? Perhaps it is also bouncing inside the frame and may need to remount or use a wedge on the back side to secure it more to the frame. If the frame is the cause, then as has been suggested.
Yes, finding the resonance and which part of it if not all in one piece, as an arm would be on a figure, may have to be looked into. Have fun :D
Maybe some pink noise so you can find the actual rattling part?

Felt works fine

Hi All,

My rattling pictures were silenced by a thin strip of felt glued onto the bottom rear of the frames. Lining shelves with felt does a great job of silencing the rattling glasses and bottles that are sitting behind the bar.

Good Luck,
Int
