Hello, I'm looking to get a nice stereo setup going, mostly for music (rock, fast metal) and a bit for movies. I'd like to start off with a nice set of Floor speakers. I live in Canada so I am limited in my decision. Here is what I am down to:

Energy c300 ($430)
Polk M-60 ($688)
Infinity P252 ($688)
Klipsch Synergy F1 ($688)
Klipsch Synergy SLX ($516)
JBl Balboa 30 ($386)
Athena LS-500B ($688)

Everything is in US price. Still A long list but I'm hoping You guys can help me cut it down a bit. Thanks for any help.

Thanks. Yea I know about Paradigm, but the ones that I listed are the ones close to me where I can actually test out. I'll try some smaller dealers In Edmonton Alberta. The ones I listed were at Visions, ABsound, Futureshop and Bestbuy. Thanks!

Don't be scared to walk into a small boutique mom and pop store. You can get deals there too.

And I can't believe you don't have anything from Paradigm or Monitor audio on your list.

I agree the Rti8 is an awesome sounding tower. Much better than the M60. Both are bit lacking in the low end of the spectrum. However, if you have OR planning to add a good powered sub then that really is no big deal. Good luck in your decision.:) :)

I would go for the RTi8's but that is out of my price range. They are on sale for $1000 Can (Reg $1300) so I think those are out of the question. The floor speakers are only a start. I will be buying the center channel, Shelf Speakers for the back and a sub. I'm gonna look into the Energy C300, maybe even the C500 those seem to be fairly good speakers. Thanks

Wow they are only $350 here each. Wonder if they ship up there.

U got me all excited there, Thought it was $350 for a pair haha. I'm sure if it was shipped to Canada the total cost would come to $1000 Can with Duty and everything. :(

Where do you live Pilsner? I would audition the Energies, they're pretty cheap for how good they sound. A&B Sound is a good place to do that.

I was at FS 2 weeks ago! I auditioned the rti8's and ls500? Here's are my thoughts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Listened to the Polk RTi8 & Athena LS500. It wasn't a long audition but my thoughts are as follows. The polk's sounded a little more bright with slightly better details/imaging and the Athena sound was more warm and neutral. IMO I liked the Athena sound more for music as for H/T polk may have a slight edge. Appearance wise the I liked the shape of the new Athenas curved along the sides and not rectangular. Either speaker would be a good choice for a budget minded consumer. Lastly both speaker were heard with and without a Velo dsp12.

PilsNer,

I'm very happy with my Energy Speakers. And they are made in Canada.

haha. I'm really leaning towards the Energies, but I'll wait till I audition them. I live in Whitecourt which is an hour and a half north west of Edmonton. This Saturday i'm planning to go there and spend the whole afternoon looking. Have some smaller shops written down that have paradigm and will be going to A&B Sound for sure. I can just see myself walking in to a store, listening and then spending 1/2 more then what I was planning, it always happens hehe.

Phoned ABsound and they got Energy C500's for $800. So far I am leaning towards those, but I also like the idea of having an infinity home stereo, as well as an infinity car stereo :D . Thanks for the help guys I'll probably leave my decision until I do some auditioning.
