my brother lent me his copies of the Anime Series "Death Note"

the gist of the story: write a name in THE notebook, that person dies.
I said to him: how simple and boring.

last night I had nothing to watch (mostly due to the shortage of tv eps)
I watched the first episode (around 20 mins. each), well, all i can say is i had watched up to the 7th episode and I want to watch some more :D

check it out ... the first few eps are coming out on DVD in the US ... but do you really want to wait that long?

I’ve been watching it on Adult Swim on the cartoon network since late October. It really pulled me in.

However, I find it’s much nicer to have the whole series so you can watch them back to back rather than waiting a week for each episode on TV.

Are the DVDs going to be in 5.1 surround? A lot of Anime is being re-released with retouched graphics and upgraded to 5.1 Audio.

Thanks for reminding me! I've been watching the anime and reading the manga since ages ago, and then suddenly it completely dropped off the radar. Very engrossing story though...just got too busy to follow it. It's been out for a while though by now, I imagine!

I may check it out, I like the odd stuff like Lain and Texhnolyze. One of my favorite Anime movies comes out on Blu-Ray today: Jin-Roh.

One of the best animes I've seen in years is Karas. I rented it at Blockbuster, but didn't know it was only part 1. I was so pissed when it just ended. Then I googled it and found out that part 2 wasn't coming out until a year later!!! Anyway, part 2 finally came out a few months ago. It wasn't as great as part 1, but still a VERY cool story and some awesome CG animation.

Edit: Just added it to my Netflix queue. Looks like there's a live-action version as well.

There is a live action version of Jin-Roh also. I also saw on HDD that they are releasing a live action version of Initial D on BD in Jan :)

Never heard of Jin-roh...need to check it out. I'm sure you're an Eva fan if you like old school :D I follow Bleach and Naruto when I get a chance now-adays along with Kekkashi.

Darien, Karas is very kick-*** in terms of animation. I think they recently released epsiode 5 or something on a torrent some place.

Does it have lossless audio?? Jin-Roh is one of my reference DVDs and has my second favorite anime soundtrack after Akira. (the soundtrack CD is also much spun on my car stereo... good night driving music)

I went looking for it last night and nobody had it. I have a feeling it was delayed. I thought the soundtrack was excellent as well. I wasn't expecting that when I bought the SE (for the 1509K Japanese DTS track), but I have definitely had the soundtrack in the car too. For the BD on HDD, no audio format info was listed.

I did pick up Paprika though...

Yes, Paprika is the one about the Doctor who is using the machine to dig into the cop's dreams. And of course, whenever you have a machine that can do such things, somone wants to steal it and use it for their own designs...

Are they doing a second season for this yet?

j_garcia, is Paprika the one about that psychologist or whoever?
There have been a few anime shows that have done multiple seasons, like Sailor Moon and Steel Angel Kurumi. A series like Chobits or Azumanga Daioh has only been done once, and the story is over basically.

As far as I know, they should be doing the second season rather soon. That would be great :D

Actually, what I would like to see more of is Desert Punk. I saw an episode on Starz Edge and it was pretty interesting thus far.

Sigh... there is so many Anime series I want to own right now....
I would say the holy grail of Anime would be Inuyasha, but DBZ may have more episodes yet. In any case, I've seen all Inuyasha episodes on Adult Swim and have no real desire to own the entire set unless someone gave it to me. THEN it would be sweet.

Most of the series I've watched have spanned more than one season. I follwed part of desert punk, but then I could just never find the other episodes for it. I think I watched up to 12 or something.

Aaah boing-chan :)

U should watch Full Metal Panic if u ever get the chance. Very nice series.

My favorite series are: Neon Genesis, Initial D, Lain, and Cowboy Beebop. Honorable mentions to Wolf's Rain, Texhnolyze, Haibane Renme and Full Metal Alchemist. Also liked Fooly Cooly and Paranoia Agent, though they were both pretty weird. I've seen most of Inuyasha also and I liked it at first, but it got a bit tired after a few seasons. The Inuyasha movies are decent though.

Those who haven't seen the series, check out the Cowboy Beebop movie (has nothing to do with cowboys...). You don't have to have any knowledge of the series to get the story and I really enjoyed it.
