I've come up with a reasonably priced system that I can install in my new house. Please tell me if it is worth it or how I should modify it to make it better. The room is mid-sized.

Why the mix and matching of your five speakers I'll never know.

Generally, at least the front right/left and center are of the same make/line and many prefer the rears to match also. For HT you might get away with non-matching rears but for MC music it's highly recommended.

The sub looks good, though. A good sub can blend well with any speakers.

Sumptin' tells me you're making decisions based on what you've read as opposed to what you've actually heard, but there's always the chance I could be wrong.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid spending too much money. The Polks and Klipsch speakers blend pretty well, I'm listening to music right now using A+B stereo on both of them and it doesn't sound too bad. I really would want to get an Ascend package, but that probably would sink my budget.

That's the high point of the system. I love bass and have a pretty big room. The advanced tuning options on the VTF series will be good for managing my room's acoustics.

Really? Noo.. ;) Actually there really aren't any good hi-fi shops where I live so I rely heavily on the net for info. I will look around some more at brick and mortar stores, but I wouldn't want to pay high prices for the same components I could find online cheaper.

One option would be to use both your Polk & Klipsch speakers as side & rear surounds, & get an all new front 3.

If you've decided not to get an all new front 3, you should do extensive listening tests between your Polk & Klipsch speakers; which ever wins out for you, buy a matching center, and make the losers your sides or rears.

That might work! I could use the Polks as surrounds (the Klipschs are HUGE!) and go with 340s across the front! This will probably be the best combination of sound for the money. Also, it will let me use the old stereo with the Klipsch speakers in another room.

Now I need to figure out the projector thing. It will most likely be mounted pretty high up in the air on these beams, ~ 9 feet up.

Here is a Google SketchUp model of the room I'm renovating.

You need the free Google SketchUp to view it.

The projector deal is great - I have installed that projector in a couple of rooms for people, and you can't beat it for that price - plus the freebies make it a steal, in my opinion. I like the idea of the matching Klipschs across the front, too.

Good luck!

I have the HSU with 4 CBM 170se's and a 340sec, and I am amazed at how good the system sounds. If you can swing the dollars, I would highly recommend it.

You could probably pick up a Yamaha leftover RX-V2500 for around that price if you look around, or a V1500.
