Man, what a break! You give us a link to get the DPR1001 for a WHOLE DOLLAR under MSRP! Holy cow!

Okay, just flipping you a little crap. $1 off doesn't get me hot and bothered, but WTF- you might snare someone incapable of using Pricewatch! :D

Well I don't know what your beef is, but no where do I see the MSRP as $499 on the 1001.

However I will point on, that OneCall does infact have DPR1001 for $447.31.

I was just joking around. The msrp is almost $1000, but practically every store is selling them for $499. I sure wasn't seriously complaining! ;)

But the Harman Kardon DPR 2005 is a monster deal @ $1209.72. Still a bit too much for me right now, but an excellent price. That bad boy has all-digital amps, so I'm betting it's gonna sound great.

How do you think it, or the AVR7200, would work as a controller with a Sunfire Cinema Grand amplifier?

I'm looking to add in some new formats to my existing system.

Unfortunately the DPR 2005 is set to cost a lot more then that in Australia. oh well...

But seriously, can anyone actually find any online reviews of this new receiver from HK? I'm seriously contemplating buying the AVR 630 and don't know whether to hold off until for the DPR 2005?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Regards, James (froowstie@hotmail.com).

I recall encountering a net article that says receivers/amps with CLASS D digital topologies still have a long way to go to be considered audiophile-grade. Their high 1% THD and IM at rated power makes them sound gritty and harsh compared with other amp configuration. I think that goes for the Integra line that uses the same Class D configuration.

But as a digital processor/pre-amp mated to a more audiophile grade multi-channel power amps, they offer excellent value.

There's an Audioholics article, "The Truth About 'Digital' Amplifiers", that might be instructive. I agree with av_phile that the distortion performance of Class D or 'digital' amps is unimpressive - might even be audible to acute and critical listeners.

But with refinements in a few years, who knows? Might be the wave of the future.

Richard Schram of Parasound even commented at CES this year that he felt digital amps are probabaly 2 iterations away from really being sonically "there".

The potential for them is excellent, but for now they aren't really superior in any way we know of other than weight/size and heat output...

Perhaps 2005 will be the year of the digital amplifier.
