DEAD PIXEL... Lamp ? Color Wheel ?

I have a Samsung HL-S5088W 50inch DLP, that's about 2.5 yrs old, surely out of warranty.

The is a single large pixel towards the center of the screen that's WHITE, from what I've read, stuck in the 'ON' position.

I'm guessing...

1. it needs a new lamp ?
2. it needs to be calibrated ?
3. it needs a new color wheel ?

Anyone been down this path... RECENTLY ?

Thank YOU !

The problem you describe would not me caused or solved by a lamp, color wheel, or calibration.

A: The DLP chip has a problem and a pixel is stuck on (very rare)

B: Something reflective has found it's way onto the DLP chip and has effectively created a "stuck pixel".

If it's a problem with the DLP chip then you're looking at big bucks. If it's as simple as cleaning it could be more reasonable. Since you say it's a "large" pixel I'm guessing that it is simply a foreign material on the chip reflecting the light in that area. A single pixel, even on a 720p display, is very small and would be hard to describe as large.

Sounds like mirrors on the chip have become stuck. I've never witnessed it. As Hi Ho stated, it's extremely rare. Pester Samsung and work your way up the food chain.

Good luck.

Damn... Thanks though fella's.

I read somewhere that there are programs you can run that can help fix this. I don't know if they work or not, but if it's just stuck then I don't see why not.

I didn't get the extended warranty.

How hard is it to change the CHIP ?

THANK YOU !!!

I could also be dirt in the light line. Which wouldn't be difficult to fix. And is far more likely IMO. Does it happen to look like dirt?

DLP chips are in sealed enclosures so I doubt dirt got in one.

Take in mind I have no fear of opening and fixing electronics. But I also have years of experience. Does the white spot happen to be round?

I was not suggesting that something got inside the chip but it is possible for something to get on the window of the chip.

Thanks for the replies fella's...

I haven't opened it up yet, but I should be able to work it out. I'm pretty good with electronics so lemme give it a shot and reply back!

Thank you again!

Make sure you have a can of gas. And you will want to attack the light line. Mirrors are usually the worse culprits.
