hello- If I have a DVD that has 5.1 EX encoded on the disc but for some reason, my receiver does not pickup the EX flag. When I tried a buddies copy of the same exact movie (Star Wars Episode II), it DID read the EX flag!! I have a 5.1 setup, so my question is, if I replace my copy w/one that allows the receiver to read the EX flag, is there any sound difference? Or is the "EX" light just not coming on? Does this make sense? Thanks for your help!!

As I understand it, EX adds a sixth, rear channel, so it's really 6.1. If you have only a 5.1 system, I wouldn't expect it to work regardless if the flag appears or not.

Reasons as to why the flag shows up on his DVD and not yours could have something to do with the quality and care he takes with his DVDs, I really have no idea. Have you tried using your DVD with his system? That would isolate whether you're having a hardware or a software problem.
