Dayton Sub120

Can someone explain to me what that "Phase" switch is on my new Dayton Sub120? It doesn't say in the manual and I didn't really hear a sound difference.

The two options are "Nor" and "Rev" which I imagine are normal and reverse?

Since the title of this thread is Dayton Sub120, I have another question. Are there any other subs (including DIY) that meet or exceed the performance of this subwoofer at this price level (< $200)?

The Bic F12 will outperform this for a little bit more money since it's basically an Acoustech H100 without all the bling.
