Great to see genius recognized. I am in my late thirties and listen to metal, fusion jazz, pop, underground/alternative, and the classics(Beatles,Yes,J. Tull, BST, too much to list). Very diverse taste but what has always caught my ear is how well certain music is recorded/engineered. I use Weckl to 'showoff' my system. Heads Up is a fantastic album as well by him. Have you listened to any Tribal Tech(Willis/Henderson)? Awesome fusion with both raw and pretty stuff. Think I'll go listen to Illicit or maybe Reality Check by them now!

I agree: "Heads Up" is also a VERY good CD; he had quite a "one-two" punch coming out of the blocks. Another really good one (that I plan on reviewing eventually) is Synergy. It's nice when you have a hard time deciding which CD to review because they're all so good!

Check out Steve Khan's 1990 release, Public Access, too, to hear Weckl really work it out. Awesome drumming.

(BTW, Khan's very recent release, The Green Field, w/Patitucci and Dejohnette, is outstanding.)

1990 was a VERY good year for jazz. Look at the CD's I've already reviewed from that year; plus, I can think of at least two more I would like to review (different artists) from 1990.
