Dave Chappelle... Live July 2022

Just got back from seeing Chappelle live. Wow. Fcuking hilarious.

First... that man can drink. Apparently, Tequila is his thing.
Second... I haven't seen chain smoking like that since I saw Nick Cave and His Piano.

Third... The man is just flipping hilarious. His talent at reading the crowd and telling stories is impressive. I don't usually go to comedy shows... I think I saw John Oliver in 2018 in SF... and before that... nope.
But there is a clear spot where practice (skill) and natural talent combine. You see this in musicians, painters, photographers... But I had not seen this live in such a way as Dave played it out tonight.

It was a little rough around the edges, to be fair. There was apparently a person impersonating a staff security who was not and the doors didn't open until about 30 minutes late.
The Lady and I got in with a friend who runs works for the venue. (Much praise to the man up in the booth!)
We actually had City po-po pop into the Booth with a K9. Asked, from out of sight, if there was anybody in the room. I heard the dog and announced ourselves. He came far enough in with the dog to see us and left.
Whatever the security risk, it was resolved.

Opening acts were good. Of course, you can't upstage the main act. ;) I wish I knew who the first dude was. He made me laugh.
Donnell Rawlings, of Chappelle Show alum, was the second opener. Good. Very good.

Anyway, this show followed a somewhat predictable path in talking about the repercussions of Dave's last special with Netflix, The Closer.
Anybody unfamiliar with the controversy can easily look it up on your search engine of choice.
Suffice it to say, just 'cos somebody tells a joke, don't get all hurt. That he thought enough of you to make fun of you is a compliment! :p

I'm not going to go on a political tirade here. I really don't give enough of a fcuk to do so.

If this turns into a Netlfix special... watch it. It was good. If you have a chance to see the tour... do it.

Dave is amazing at what he does. I’ve been enjoying a lot of comedy lately from him, Steve Trevino, Tom Segura, Theo Von, Kevin Hart, and so on. It’s a good time for laughs IMO.

Ronny Cheng has been my favorite guy lately. Hilarious.

I really enjoy Dave and he has 2 shows coming up here too. People get too bent out of shape over comedy. That is what comedians DO. They make fun of things. Deal with it.

Funny tidbit:
The previous night a counter-protester showed up. No protesters did, though.

:p

I'm flashing back to Sam Kinison and Dice Clay as I was just old enough to catch some of their earlier stuff (like before Sam started cleaning up his act, and even before he really went deep-end into being famous). But before that you had Carlin. Before that, Lenny Bruce.

When I saw him he was high as FK. I think it was the 90s before his comedy series. He was the opener and he was hilarious! He once held the door as me and my girlfriend were going into a restaurant he was coming out of. :p

I was in the first row for Eddie Griffin @ the Improv on his birthday. He was wasted but he was still funny lol.
