Last night we got to see Daryl Steurmer at the Potowatami Casino in the Norther Lights Theater, cost was $20 per ticket.... For those that don't know - Daryl Steurmer was part of Genesis for many many years and is a local to my area - in fact lives in the town I grew up and went to highschool - WhiteFish Bay, WI a few miles north of downtown Milwaukee.... I have been a long time fan of Genesis - early years to late, as well as the many local concerts that Daryl Steurmer does here. Last nights show was nothing short of his usual great concert.

His latest tour is Genesis - Rewired http://genesis-rewired.com/
There are also tons of photos on Daryl Steurmers Site http://www.darylstuermer.com/

He has found a guy "Martin Levac" from Canada that played Phil Collins in their Genesis cover band “The Musical Box” tribute band. I couldn't believe how amazing his voice was and exact replica of Phil.... mannerisms and all Just wow...

Daryls guitar work needs no mention, he is an amazing performer, the show was spectacular and the Northern Lights theater has great sound as well, not sure what they were using for bass reinforcement but it was shaking the entire venue of 20,000 + cu ft - I was very very impressed with general SQ from all areas in the house, upper level - lower level and spread out to the wings when grabbing cocktails....

For anyone in the area here they will be playing at Gathering on the Green in Mequon in July - I would suggest it to be a show worth seeing and you will have a great time...

Some pics - not of the show last night but just the same...

Seriously, I have no life.
I'm not sure I'd use 'was in Genesis' quite yet. All of the members get along well and they had been trying to do a full band show or tour, so...

I'd like to see them with the old and newer lineups. I never saw them with Peter Gabriel and that period is when I became aware of them- I remember seeing them on a Friday night live concert show in about '72, with Gabriel in the big, yellow flower costume doing Musical Box. The next time I remember hearing much from them was in college, when a friend played 'Seconds Out', which is still one of my favorites.

Did he say anything about playing at Summerfest?

Just a clarification: Martin was in the cover band The Musical Box, but he only played drums and did backup vocals, no lead vox. When he started the cover band Dance on a Volcano, that's when he played up the similarities with Phil, donning the wig and doing a spectacular impersonation of Phil, both in mannerisms and voice. When that group busted up, he started up the cover band Turn It On Again and continued in the same vein.

Oh, and the flower costume was used for the "Willow Farm" portion of the song of Supper's Ready, not The Musical Box.

Sorry to get all anal on you guys. (Boy, that sounds dirty!) Certain topics demand it from me. Again, apologies.

I keep hoping Rewired will come to Toronto, but no dice. Warpdrv, do they recreate various Genesis tours the way Martin's old bands used to do? Or do they perform selected songs from across the board?

cheers,
supervij

I didn't see anything about summerfest, but you can check his schedule on his site or the other one...

The stuff they did was great, not a huge recreation setup - but they played some great older stuff.... found a set list on Daryls photos for nothern lights theater... Looks pretty close to what they were playing...

Peter Gabriel likely won't be doing anything with Genesis at all this year since he will be on his own tour promoting "I'll Scratch Your Back, You Scratch Mine". So sad. The classic reunion lineup will likely never happen.

Sorry, it was 39 years ago. Or, is it Magog?

I wouldn't rule out a Toronto gig, either. They're playing in Upstate New York soon, so some shows could be added to make the trip more efficient. Daryl was just up there to do some Godin clinics, so....

It's not meant to be a tribute band, just a different take on the music.

They may not be able to tour any time soon but at least they get along, unlike some bands that think the Earth revolves around everything they do. They're still pretty spry, so I think it could happen, if only on a very limited basis.

Any plans to do podcasts with other musicians who produce, or recording engineers?

Didn't Phil recently say that he wouldn't be drumming anymore due to messed up wrists or something?

"Different take on the music" -- cooooool! I'd love to see/hear this!

cheers,

He had surgery on his neck, due to the vertebrae pinching his spinal column. I read that it wasn't entirely successful and he can't hold drum sticks/play without pain in his hands. He basically said "These things happen". OTOH, he didn't seem to have a problem physically handling the award or walking up to the dais at the R&R HOF ceremony and he has a new album coming out soon. Daryl will be heading to New York in June to play on that, along with Motown's Funk Brothers.

There's a short segment with Daryl on a local radio station, regarding the New York gig.
