Wow, its great, among the innovative likes of Srg. Pepper. I have a question, how many of you actually have a SACD compatible player? Doesn't only Sony make them? My dvd player can't play SACDs, but I have the mode set on PLII Music. Do you guys think I'm getting a pretty simular effect using the PLII decoders or does having a SACD player make a world of a difference?

Click to expand... Does your receiver support 5.1 analog connections? If so, do yourself a favor and at the very least pick up an inexpensive DVD-A/SACD combo player. You'll be able to hear DSotM in true 5.1 surround as James Guthrie intended you to hear it. Simulated surround is like kissing your sister.

You can get a good Pioneer for around $100, and it makes a world of difference. You're really missing a lot by using faux surround instead of the real MC mix. There's a lot of other fantastic stuff out there if you have a universal machine. The Flaming Lips DVD-A "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" is a marvel, as is the last Steely Dan disc or two. By the end of the month, the Flaming Lips "The Soft Bulletin" will also be out on DVD-A!

The 5.1 version is too distracting. I hope they ship Soft Bulletin with a stereo version as well. I'll be disappointed if they only include some overly gimmicked 5.1 version. Can't find anything yet that has details.

IIRC, it was said to be an open-box special. I don't know what the prices should be in the US, but I get them landed here in Aus for about the same cost as a redbook cd here. And their service is good and reliable I've found.
