Damn you, digital audio out!! Advice needed.

After all the trouble I had with getting my digital out cable I now discover that Creativelabs has decided to mess with me

So I got the standard digital coax cable but the female jack on my Creative Audigy 2 ZS card doesn't want to accept the coax cable all the way in because part of the cable sheath prevents it from being fully seated in the sound card.

It only accepts cables like this:

Even my motherboard plate has a jack that will accept the co-ax cable without any issue. Why the heck can't Creative design a card that allows both types of cables?!

So is there a converter that allows me to use my cable but still plug it into my sound card? Would appreciate some help!

Okay so another stupid question. What might this adapter be called? Is it an RCA-to minijack converter? I've been going through the Radioshack webpage and I haven't really found anything that looks like it might do the job for me. Of course I'm ignorant, so does anyone know what this thing is called? I can go to the store and ask about it then.

Mono RCA male-male 1/8" mono cable thingy, they should be able to get you what you are looking for. I know they have it because I have one from Radioshack.

Yes you can. The only issue that you may possibly have is if the cable you get isn't 75ohms. This would mean possible blackouts in sound, possible. I never had any problems with mine that is Radioshack brand, though I am not certain if it is indeed 75ohms.

I've been googling around a bit on the net and I see lots of posts claiming people are only getting 2 channels over the SPDIF cables (via Soundblaster Audigy 2 Zs). So this is not true then? It's not just two stero channels?

Okay still in trouble. I have my old 2.1 connected on my line1 out. I have the coax connected on SPDIF (it's a STEREO mini jack on the sound card). I've set the receiver to accept audio from the appropriate source. I've set the AudioHQ > Device Controls > Decoder to SPIDF and sampling rate to 48 Khz.

Additionally, under the THX control panel i have Digital Output only checked and Speaker/Headphone selection to 2/2.1 Speakers (not sure if that matters).

However when I play an mp3 test song on iTunes, I hear nothing on the speakers through my receiver. However, I do hear sound from my old 2.1

What gives?? What do I need to do to get the soundcard to output to my reciever??

Maybe you have to disconnect the computer speakers, I am not surper knowledgeable about computers.

It would suck if that's the case because I need to use my computer speakers for quite a while to come. I'll also try buying a mono adapter instead of the stereo for digital out to see if that makes a difference.

My friend has these with his Z680s. Works fine, but the material has to be in DD or DTS also for the real deal.

If you're looking ot get rid of the static, it will work fine.

Alright, figured it out. Looks like the MONO jack did the trick!! Sound can be heard and OMFG the Axiom m60 hooked up to the Yamaha 2700 sounds incredible. The sounds are very distinct and defined...I can't believe how much good audio adds to the movie experience.

It's like I can hear the individuals grains of sand fall in Black Hawk Down after an explosion (and this is before I've run any sort of YAPO or any sort of optimization)! I can't believe I own this...it's a dream come true....after 3 years of saving and saving!!

I'll post some pix after I get everything setup.
