So heres the situation... I come home, after being away shopping for a few hours, to my roomate blaring my system louder then need be. The receiver is a Yamaha RXV1500 and he had it running both sets of front speakers (A & B). The receiver is turned up to -2, which to me is loud. I play it at -10 at the absolute loudest, but usually anywhere from -40 to -20. I dont even know why he would want it that loud because it kinda sounded like ****! But anyways I immediatly turned it down and asked him how long he had been listening to it that loud, his reply..... "since you left". Geez! Time to find a new roomate I know lol! But anyways, how much damage did this do to my receiver and or my speakers? Thanks for the help guys! And if anyone has any suggestions for me for my roomate, shoot away! Thanks

I had the same problem ALL the way through college...Remember, its not the end of the world! A friend of mine blew a 10" woofer right out of the magnet. It was on a set of brand new Advent Meastro's...$800 at the time. Pissed me off but was replace a few days later for about $30 and we still have a good laugh about it!

start by listening at low level. If everything sounds fine with the receiver then if should be ok. if there is something "damaged"in the receiver youll be able to tell. next, check each driver in the speakers (tweeter, mid range, woofer) If you dont hear anything abnormal they should be fine. if you hear crackeling or nothing at all they might be dammaged/blown. next, put slight resistance against the woofer. GENTLY move it in and out. if you fell some resistance or feel like the voice coil has unraveled, it is blown. Finally...tie your roomate to the bumper of your car and give him a ride around the block a few times. Just kidding!
If the receiver is dammaged you might have an issue...
If your speakers drivers are blown you can get a replacement at parts express.

If something is wrong ask him to take care of it...I dont know your roomate but it shouldnt be that big of a deal

A shovel, a jar of honey and an ant hill of fire ants comes to mind. :D

If you don't hear any obvious damage, then everything should be fine. The receiver isn't likely to have sustained any damage from something like that; the speakers would be much more likely to suffer.

If you have damaged drivers, first check with the speaker manufacturer, not Parts Express - they sell various drivers, but it is unlikely that they sell your exact drivers.
