I have a pair of my fathers Sansui s-v929u loudspeakers in my basement."I remember coming home and hearing them from top of the block and the windows would be shaking" these are at least 20 yr's old but believe they are in good condition. I wanna know if these would be a good alternative until I shell out the bucks for some axiom's. Rirght now I have a htr5890 with bose, I was thinking of putting the sansui's as my main and have the bose fill out the rest of the 7.1 what do you think any suggestions?

I bet you don't hook the Bose back up. I had a friend that had a Sansui system 19 years ago. Pretty loud and reliable from what I remember. Not much for sound quality. About like Fisher speakers from what I remember. The surrounds are probably rotten. Don't crank-um too much.:D

Depends on the Sansui...some had foam surrounds, others had doped cloth...the doped cloth surrounds will last a lifetime.

The higher end models are pretty decent for their age. Some of the smaller models perform well when updated with newer components and crossovers...but that's pretty pricey.

dont discount the gear's sonic value until you have heard it,age mean's very little especially with speaker's,ofcourse the issue of rotted surround's & dried out part's in the xover's need's to be addessed but if all is well then give it a shot & see.

i have a 4 year old pair of klipschorn's & a 20 year old pair of mcintosh speaker's that still work great to this day.

i personally do not think that speaker's have evolved that much in the last 20 year's & in most high end big $ cases they have went backward's giving away any bass response in favor of midrange
