I am in a pickle! My Logitech Squeezebox player is starting to glitch and I found out that Logitech has discontinued this product!! Now what do I do? I have really invested in this tech! I have 40,000 Classical Albums all in FLAC format. The only reason that I knew the product line was discontinued was because I was going to buy a new Squeezebox product. I have used this tech to stream music in my household for going on 8 years!!! What the hell do I do now? Is there any compatible technology or something that works just as well? My Squeezebox is awesome at what it does.

I can't think of any reason that your squeezebox would be glitching. Perhaps make sure you are running the latest LMS and that the firmware is up to date. Then if you are using coax, switch to toslink or rca. I've recently bought a couple of used squeezeboxes off of Ebay and that's worked out fine so far.

I could someday see the day when the squeezebox is replaced by a raspberry PI or something but for now, I certainly prefer them over other devices.

Do you have any other squeezeboxes that you can compare to regarding the glitching?

The UE Radio is a completely different product. Mainly for music streaming off of the internet. It doesn't use the Squeezebox Server Software and goes directly to the server on the internet. It also does not connect to your main stereo equipment. It is just basically an internet radio and that is all. This doesn't help because you can back track to Squeezebox and use the server but even then I would have nothing to connect to my Denon Receiver for my main music system.

I have checked all of the software and firmware and gone through all of the error logs and nothing. The squeezebox Duet will suddenly stop in the middle of a song, pause and then start the next track. At first I thought it was my FLAC files but they would play through on my Squeezebox Radio with no problem and on the Duet the second time around. I have even re-ripped the files form the master CD and replaced the old ones. The controller will suddenly shut down and reboot for no reason. I have even seen it do this in the charging stand. The other day I actually got a sound artifact, this sudden "blat" sound that I could not replicate. And these problems just seem to be getting more frequent. I have checked the server numerous times (Hard Drive Failure, Really busy network, but nothing is showing up). I really love this product and I also can't think of another product out their that can do what the squeezebox does!

That certainly sounds like a challenging problem to diagnose. Is the connection from your Duet to the server hardwired or wireless? I can't think of what would cause this behavior other than server reboots. I run LMS on Windows Home Server 2011 and what sometimes has gotten me in the past is when the server did an automatic windows update that caused a restart or resulted in a temporary impact to server resources. That said, I don't think anything like that should cause a sound artifact.

This gets down to grasping at straws but there was the one time that my switch and router had a fight that completely messed up connectivity. A reset of the switch fixed it immediately but it had me questioning my entire network for a half hour.

Much as I love the Squeezebox, I guess you could consider a solution like Sonos if you don't want to buy used from Ebay.

good luck!
