Dad needs help old rear projection finally blew.

My Dads power switch finally blew on his 15 year old toshiba 50 inch. I haven't been in the audio/video market for quite a while. Can anyone recommend me a tv for him in the 1800-2500 range? I remember the Samsung 850 was one of the better ones last time I checked. I think I might want to stay away from the plasma and is HDMI 1.3 the current hookup?

I'll take a Panasonic TC-P50/54G25 Plasma over a Sammie. The connection depends on the sources used, but for the best HD HDMI 1.3 is the current standard and it's migrating to 1.4 to handle 3-D.

consider the mitsubishi DLP's. "bang for buck" is pretty high, as long as he is not super picky.
