How many DAC's are in an average receiver? One, maybe a second for headphones? I'm using the Yamaha RX-A1080 in my office and after the kids goto bed I plug headphones in. Would there be any reason to buy an external headphone DAC?

There are typically 2 to 3. The RX-A2060 has 3, one for each zone so I am quite sure the RX-A1080 has two. The one for Z2 is the PCM5101 that is a two channel DAC. I have quite a few external DACs and headphone DACs mainly because I like to play around and the flexibilities, not that I can really hear any difference between them. Each will have their own reasons.:D

So if I buy a set of high quality headphones and plug them into my Denon receiver and activate zone 2, which has it’s own Dac, will that give me better sound than Bluetooth headphones?
Thanks.

Is there a dedicated DAC for the headphone jack on most receivers or it using the primary one?
