D2Audio circuitry in Emotiva DMR-1

So I've been looking at the DMR-1 again and was wondering what you guys think about the amp section in this receiver. It's supposed to be a digital amplifier. Now, I was wondering if that is the same kind of digital amplifier you find in a JVC RX-D702B or in a Panasonic SA-XR57S.
It says "a unique high performance PCM to PWM audio driver circuit with discrete MOSFET output stages, courtesy of D2Audio". Does anybody know what exactly that means?
Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question. However, if I were you I would pose that question on the Emotiva forum. You will find the link at the main Emotiva web site. Lonnie, the head guy and technical guru will more than likely answer that question for you.

Happy Listening,

The DMR-1 does sound great

The DMR-1's amplifier is much more overbuilt than the JVC receivers, that is for sure. The JVC receivers weigh about 15-17 pounds, the Emotiva weighs about 40 or so. I have taken apart one of those JVC receivers and I can personally say the amplifier in those things is totally different from the DMR-1, they are incredibly cheesy looking and the heatsinks are horrible (they run pretty hot for being Class D).

Mosfets are known to be more efficient than standard output devices, I can't say for sure that the JVC does not have Mosfets, but as hot as they run I would guess not.

But the amps in the DMR-1 are different from the amps in a denon 2808 or so, in that they are digital? I'm not quite sure if I get what it means to have an analog vs. a digital amp.

Class D is not "digital". Digital is a tag word they put with Class D (switching amplifiers) as a marketing scheme. Your average low knowledge consumer hears the word "digital" and thinks they are getting the best. Truth is, there is no such thing as "digital" when it comes to end amplification, because speakers are analog.

Wikipedia has some information regarding the different classifications of amplifiers.
