D-ILA Screen Burn-in

I had pretty much decided to buy JVC's 56" D-ILA TV, however I found some interesting information that I want to get clarified.

I was under the impression that D-ILA technology from JVC didn't have a problem with screen burn in. However, after reading the TV manual it says that the TV may get burn-in. The thing that confused me was that it said it would slowly fade if you turn the channel. Does screen burn-in always do this for every type of technology or just D-ILA. I thought once it burned in, it was always there.

Also, I will be playing some PS2 and Computer games on the TV and was wondering what you all thought about how quickly it might burn in. I may have to go back to looking at DLP, which is fine, but I didn't want to have to worry about the rainbow effect. I know the rainbow effect is not that bad anymore, but I still didn't want to have to worry about it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
LK

I believe D-ILA is just JVC's trademarked name for their implementation of LCOS. LCOS is essentially an LCD technology.

LCD does not suffer from burn-in but does occasionally suffer 'image retention'. Whereas burn-in is permanent and must be avoided at all costs, image retention goes away after a little while of displaying non-static images and is not permanent. Because they say that the retained image will slowly fade away after changing channels, I would assume that they are incorrectly calling the phenomenon burn-in and really mean image retention.

can't say much about the d-ila burn in (though the comments above sound reasonable).

rainbow effect is of course a personal issue, but i find the most avid critics of dlp rainbow artifacts are hardcore videophiles (bit of a generalization there). i'm sure you've looked at plenty of tvs on showroom floors, but i have been able to spot the rainbow only by really trying and even then it has not seemed like as big a problem as many online reviewers and sales reps have made it out to be.
