Cylinder or Box? (and sub location advice)

After some recommendations on my previous post, I'm considering the SVS ultra. Looking at the dimensions, the box ultra is going to be a really tight squeeze to put it where I would like to. I am kind of limited on my sub placement (see attatched pics; by the way is you see any other possible locations lemme know; also the right side of the room opens up into the kitchen for whatever thats worth.). Right now I think my best bet is to put the sub in the corner next to my left main. Those tables would obviously be moved to make room. So since I am limited on space I'm considering the ultra cylinder. My biggest question is if there is a huge difference on sound clarity from the box to the cylinder?

only if you are counting SPL db's will you notice a big difference in performance between the cylinder and box.

it's all because the box has slightly more enclosure volume, but the driver, amp and ports are all the same.

so the "cleanness" of the sound should stay the same?

yes. :)

other possible locations either for box or cylinder:
-in between the left main and tv
-in between the right main and tv
-to the right of the right main
-in between your loungers as a coffee table

i edited my post while you were typing, i posted alternative locations. personally, i like the box coffee table idea. OR any of the in betweens with the cylinder.

the coffee table idea would work but i haven't moved the couch in yet (new house). the sub sound wouldn't be affected being so close to the tv and speakers?

the sub sound will be affected by its location in the room and by the room itself, not by the tv and speakers ... that is why, if you go for the cylinder, you might have to listen/measure the Frequency response where it is flattest among all the alternative locations.

i did find though that placing the sub nearfield (mine was behind the couch), it was less affected by the room, because the sound waves (probably) got to me before they got to the walls.

All in all, you're saying that the Box sub is slightly better performing than the Tubed, is that correct?
