You need to expand your explanation. Is this a factory audio system? Aftermarket? What components are used, etc., etc.?

I would check the accessory 12V turn on at the amplifier. It sounds like it is shutting off or shorting. At least at this point in time with such limited info.

ok so i dont have too much info cos im a girl and the reason for my question is cos im useless at this stuff lol its a 1200watt sub bought direct from halfords about 4yrs ago...it worked fine in my old car (which i crashed) i now hav the same car again...the wires at the bk of the head unit (original) are now spliced and the amp is running off the battery. voltages have all been checked and are all ok, so there doesnt seem to be any explanation for the shorting out sorry about the vagueness!

I would check all connections. Starting at the battery & working back. See if there is a large amount of voltage loss after the fuse holder. I would highly suspect a poor ground/lose ground, main 12V supply, Accessory 12V turn on, or signal cables.

Are you using an aftermarket amplifier along with your sub?

What kind of vehicle?? (yr. make & model please)

To me it sounds like a wiring issue of some sort. Without going through the system myself, it is very difficult to diagnose. :(

annunaki already beet me to it. It sounds like a ground problem, make sure that the ground wire has a good contact to metal.

well we kinda figured out half the problem...the blue cable (big cable which runs from back of head unit to amp) has a fault we think or the input socket on the amp itself cos we pulled out the part which has the red tape around it and left the black one in and it seemed to work...when swapping these over...leaving the red one in it cut out after a while again. but once again too good to be true i took her for a drive and after messing with volume turning it up etc it cut out, so now i have to have it on a set volume to work.
my car is an aygo blue, with original head unit, 58plate.
maybe i shud just get a toyota sub at £385.00 inc fitting LOL...amp was from halfords from new too :)
