I am going to purchase a 200 watt amplifier and use my Yamaha as a processor. Should I hook the 200 watt amp to a dedicated 20 amp circuit? As of this writting the amplifier will be either a Rotel 1095 or the Outlaw 7700.
I have a dedicated room for my home theater and the lights as well as the equipment are on seperate lines. If need be I can install another line,15 amps or 20 amps. It will be a lot of work considering the walls are 7" thick but I would do it. All of my equipment are on two dedicated 15 amp lines. I think that plugging a 200 watt amp in one of these lines would be a mistake. I need someones professional advice. Thanks!

With that two 15A line, you should be more than fine to plug in that amp in one of them. After all, it will not draw 200 watts constantly per channel, rather 10 watts at most and peak to 200 at times, maybe.

hi frank, mrtry is right, you wont have any problem at all with either amp from a 15 amp line,in my bedroom rig im running a pair of 300 watt monoblocks & a single 200 watt monoblock plus a preamp & a dvd/cd player all from a 15 amp line with no problem at all.

even in my big rig where im running 1,530 watts of amplification i did not need to put in a 20 amp line until my wife decided to use the same circut to use her damn clothes iron on while im listening

as a side note after i installed 2 seperate 20 amp lines for my main rig there was no sonic improvement at all,the rig sounded the same, both amps your looking at have sufficient power reserves to drive 200 watts continuously without tripping a breaker.

Thank You

Thank You both highfihoney and mtrycrafts. Problem solved. When I am talking to some of these quote "technicians" at these home theater stores they somehow make you feel like you don't know what you are doing if they find out you do not understand the "tech" talk.
I like the basics, words like power, good sound, stereo remember that word?
With all that is happening and with the speed of things changing in electronics these days it is hard to keep up with the issues.
Well guys thank you again and highfihoney tell your wife to buy wrinkle free clothes.
