Current Speaker Broken, Need New Ones

Hello All-

The other day I went to go listen to some music and noticed that there was a lot more volume coming out of the left speaker as compared to the right speaker. I put my ear up to the right one and noticed that something was definitely wrong with it. It was playing some of the music, but there was also a hiss/crackle to it. To me, this seems like the speaker is blown but maybe I am wrong. The thing that confuses me is that I haven't been playing overly loud music lately (and if I did it would have sounded horrible). Is it possible it blew from playing Battlefield 3 at a high level?

Either way, the speakers that are broken are nothing special (Polk Tsi200) and have been looking to upgrade recently anyways. I don't have a ton of space so towers may be out of the question, but they also may be out of my price range. I was looking at something along the lines of $600 total.

I am looking for a speaker that will perform the best musically. For me, it is just an added bonus if it also is a good home theater speaker.

One thing that really sparked my interest was the Aperion Verus Grand Bookshelf Speaker coming in at $598/pair. What are people's opinions on that? Do people have other suggestions?

My current gear is as follows:
Marantz SR5005
Polk Tsi200
Polk Cs20 Center Channel
SVS PB12-NSD

I understand that the Polk center channel and whatever new speakers I end up getting would not work together so I would most likely sell the center channel and then get a new center when I have more money.

Thanks

You don't know it is the speaker. It is more likely the receiver.

Switch the left and right speaker connections. If the fault moves to the other side it is the receiver, if it stays on the same side it is the speaker.

Yeah, I thought about that before and never tried because the receiver is basically new. I gave it a try and I am pretty sure the sound travels with the speaker, but I am going to try again tomorrow and listen to louder music when it isn't late at night. That is when I noticed right away. But I do think it is the speaker.
