CSW P1000 vs. SVS SB12-plus vs. HSU VTF-2 MK2

Time for another subwoofer death match.

I've narrowed the field to the Cambridge Soundworks Newton P1000, SVS SB12+, and HSU VTF-2 MK2 based on budget and WAF to be paired with my CSW surround speakers.

The P1000 gets positive reviews (see www.audioreview.com,
www.hometheatersound.com/equipment/cambridge_newton_mc300.htm), and I think it sounds fine.

The only negative comment on the P1000 compared it to the SVS PB12+2 ("sounded incredibly lifeless" - www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/printthread.php?t=704981&page=2&pp=30).


Does it follow that the SB12+ would outperform the P1000? Is one 12" driver superior to two 10" drivers?


Does the VTF-2 MK2 with a slightly larger enclosure outperform the P1000 and SB12+?

What are your goals? If size does not matter, get the Hsu VTF-2 MK3. It has much better low extension than the MK2. If size matters get the SVS SB12. That's my take on it.

I'm looking to spend around $700.

The size constraint (determined by WAF) is around 19.5"h 14"w 18"d. Personally, I would be OK with a larger sub, but the room is rather small.

I agree with Nick250. I'd opt for the VTF-2 Mk3 if it fits your size condition, otherwise the SB-12.

My firend has one and he said my PB-10 sounded almost identical to the P1000.
