IMO, the main reason to get a headphone amp is to add a defeatable crossfeed circuit.
This one doesn't have a crossfeed, so for most headphones one is unlikely to hear a difference from a component's headphone jack. (For some that need more voltage than the typical iDevice will give them, such as Senn HD-580/600/650, it will still be an improvement.)
Which reminds me, I should probably take pictures of of HeadRoom Portable Micro ("2007" model, though made in 2008) and put it in the classifieds. I haven't much used it since I got the 2010 model of same. The difference between the 2007 and 2010 is that the 2010 which only runs on its internal Li-ion batteries and has a small charger that only charges the batteries (doesn't run the amp). The 2007 one has a PS brick bigger than the amp, and is switchable between AC and two 9V cells.
