Crown XTi 1000--bridged

I am checking to see if anyone is using a Crown XTi 1000 bridged for sub use and also connecting to it with the HiQnet SA software? If so, can you let me know? I would like to see if you maybe seeing an "issue" as I am. I have posted over at the Crown forum but do not seem to be making it anywhere. I cannot post a link to the thread over a Crown right now because of my post count but below is a discription of what I am seeing after going to firmware 1.1.2.9. Thanks.

In SA:
I looked at the preset for "Bridge" and the input showed sum (ch1 + ch2). With this, only the channel 1 input showed signal. I went to the preset "bridge subs". Again the input showed sum (ch1 + ch2) with only channel 1 showing a signal. As a test I changed it to "input y". As soon as I did this, I show a signal on channel 1 and 2

In the XTI1000 setup you have two choices to configure the input. Either CH1+CH2 or Input Y. When running the amplifier in Bridged mode channel 1 is used unless you have set the input for Y. If you leave you amplifier set to input CH1+ CH2 and run bridged it is still going to show how you have the input configured but channel 2 will not be doing anything.

Most of my customers just use channel 1 when bridging the amplifier but you can do it either way and it will not hurt anything. If your preamp device has a right and left subwoofer output, "stereo", then set the input to Y otherwise just leave it the way it is and only use channel 1.

budbrande,

Thanks for the reply. Here is my question-issue though. Below is a section of the manual about the "Y" setting. I am trying to use the "Input Y" since I don’t want-need the DB boost but the indications on the amp and in SA show that CH1 and Ch2 have an input. I only noticed this after upgrading the firmware. I hate to do this but I will add a few dummy posts so I can put in the link to the thread at crown which has pictures of what I am looking at. I just don’t believe the amp should be showing both inputs with a signal according to the manual. Thanks again.

Y (Input Y): The options are
• CH1+CH2 (Ch.1 input signal and Ch. 2 input signal are
summed and fed to both output channels.) This provides a
6 dB level boost.
• INPUT Y (Ch. 1 input signal goes to Ch. 1 and Ch. 2
output. **********Ch. 2 input signal is ignored.********)

Here is the quote from page 25 of the XTI1000 owners manual under ADVANCED FEATURES AND OPTIONS

BRG (Bridge-mono or Stereo) Use this option to set the amplifier to bridge-mono or stereo mode. When BRIDGE is active, the Ch. 1 input signal is used (unless you made an alternate setting with the Y processing block).

In bridge mode with input CH1+CH2 the amplifier is expecting to see input on both channel 1 and channel 2 inputs which gets summed and you get the 6dB level boost.

In bridge mode with input Y you are only getting signal on the channel one input but you will see signal on the amplifiers channel 2 meter because the signal is being fed to the channel two output.

budbrande,

Thanks again for the reply. Is the below section also from the manual (your reply)? The only reason I ask is I have the manual up right now and it is not in there. Either way though, it appears what I am seeing isOK and I will not be harming my sub. Thanks again for your time and help.

Your reply:
In bridge mode with input Y you are only getting signal on the channel one input but you will see signal on the amplifiers channel 2 meter because the signal is being fed to the channel two output.

Advanced from my manual:
4 Advanced Features
and Options:
LIM (Limiter for Ch. 1 or Ch. 2): The amplifier can be
set to hard-limit signals at one of these thresholds:
• –3 dB below clip
• –6 dB below clip
• –12 dB below clip.
BRG (Bridge-mono or Stereo): Use this option to set
the amplifier to bridge-mono or stereo mode. When BRIDGE
is active, the Ch. 1 input signal is used (unless you made an
alternate setting with the Y processing block).
LOCKOUT: To disable or lock the buttons, hold "Prev" and
"Next" until the screen says "Locked." The rotary knobs always
operate. To unlock, hold "Prev" and "Next" until the screen
says "Unlocked."
