Crossover/wsub issue on Marantz receiver

When viewing a dvd or watching HD with a digital signal. my powered sub works great. It is connected to my Marantz via the pre-out. However, when I use the tuner on my receiver, there is no signal transfered through the sub pre-out. Is there a way to tell my receiver to send that signal or do I have to run my left and right speaker cables through my sub to get that signal?

You should be able to get the sub working with the tuner without using the speaker level outputs.
Do you have the receiver set to pure direct? This would bypass the receiver's bass management and there would be no output to the SW.

I believe when you have a digital input, the "pure direct" setting is bypassed since the DAC must be used. Pure direct only works for analog inputs such as your tuner.
