Crossover settings? Denon AVR-X2300W with a mix of Dali Zensor speakers

Hi,

I need some advice regarding crossover settings. My 5.1 setup consists of:
Denon AVR-X2300W
Dali Zensor 5 front speakers, rated 43 - 26,500 Hz
Dali Zensor Vokal center speaker, rated 47 - 26,500 Hz
Dali Zensor Pico rear speakers, rated 62 - 26,500 Hz
Dali Sub E-9-F subwoofer, rated 37-200 Hz

If you didn't have any measurement tools, how would you set the crossover(s)?

Thanks in advance.

Basic setup would be to set all speakers to small, crossover anywhere from 80 to 100 and let the sub do its work.

But you can play with the crossover points for each individual speaker as long as they can hit the low mark. Maybe start at 60 for each and see how they sound. Lower if they can handle the task. Higher if they cannot. This will keep the avr from having to work as hard.

But many on here will most likely have a much better answer.

I suspect 100 Hz would get you good results. If not, try 110 Hz. Set the rear speakers to 120 Hz. I assume you did run Audyssey, and followed the instructions to the letter.

Our friends at SVS have a tool called Merlin that suggests crossover settings (just scroll down and put in the information for each of your speakers, then click on "View Recommended Settings" below their recommended subwoofers):

I'd say 80 to start and try below and above that to experiment...are the frequency responses quoted for your speakers the +/- 3db range or?

They are for +/- 3 dB according to Dali, but a) I don't believe them and b) the AVR-X2300W can use some help. That's why I am suggesting 100 Hz to start, and go from there (higher) if necessary.

Thank you all for your advice. It seems that most of you recommend one single crossover for all speakers. What are the cons of setting individual crossovers?

Basically all of the low frequencies for the 5 loudspeakers <100Hz & 0.1 LFE track will be sent to the subwoofer, all other frequencies above 100Hz will be sent to the left/right front, center, left/right surrounds. All of your loudspeakers are the same brand with similar transducers except the subwoofer have similar frequency responses so now the sound stage should be better balanced, even though some of the loudspeakers can go below 100Hz... No need let the subwoofer carry the lower frequency energy. Try it and see how it sounds, U can always change if U require..

Just my $0.02... ;)

It depends. In your case, I do suggested you use cross the Picos higher, such as 120 Hz.

Just a general recommedation in my case, not specifically a universal xover setting with different speakers.....you may need to adjust for less capable speakers with higher crossovers individually.

ps the frequency range specifications for different speakers you provided were without specifcation outside their general range, so not very useful. Best to find the +/- 3dB spec, as that is the most often compared for such.
