Crossover issues w/sub, receiver & DVD player

OK, here's what's goin' on:

I just purchased a new Sony KD-34xbr960 16:9 hidef tube for the bedroom, along with the following gear:

New Sony DVD player's (x/o is fixed at 120, and apparently cannot be defeated), new 5.1 receiver has x/o points of 100, 150, and 200 , and am not certain at the moment if it's x/o can be defeated.

Bohlender-Graebener :D Z7's (mains), Z1 (center) and PD-8's (rear surrounds)

Onix/Rocket ELT SW-10 Sub (has speaker inputs)

I was looking to cross the sub at 70 or so, but am a bit concerned that I may be screwed. Can I bypass the internal x/o's of the DVD player and receiver? I'm not too thrilled with the idea of having to cross at 100hz+, and don't mind running some extra speaker wire if it'll get the job done!

Any thoughts, suggestions, or wisecracks? Thanks!!

You might consider setting the L+R to large and using the sub's crossover setting. I did that with my old receiver that had the same crossover points you are mentioning. With that setup you will also want to set the L+R speakers to large in the DVD player's setup as well for SACD playback. Setting those speakers to large bypasses the crossover for those speakers and plays them full range. Not the most efficient way to do it but considering your circumstances should work. I agree though more model info would help people make better suggestions.

Hi, AV Rat!

This is definitely not HTIB! Bohlender-Graebener (www.bgcorp.com) and Wisdom Audio (www.wisdomaudio.com) are not your run of the mill speakers. Wisdom, founded by Tom Bohlender, offers a set of speakers that runs $600,000 ! The Z7's were named a "best buy" by The Absolute Sound in '04, which, of course, doesn't mean everyone should rund out and buy them. I have another set of BGs in my main HT listening area (different sub, tho), too.

After tiring of reading crummy manuals , I made a few calls and appear to have straightened everything out regarding my x-over issues. I got a bit freaked out hooking everything up and seeing those crazy x-over points!

Regards!

Taifun,

Looks like you were right on the money with your suggestions! My manuals kind of sucked, and clearly gave the impression the xo's couldn't be defeated.
