Cross over settings on Receivers

Due to room constrain and GAF, I have to use different speakers for main and surrounds. While I still don't know what I will buy for mains, I am set on a pair of Mirage Nanosat speakers for surrounds. I think these need 120 cross over setting. Whatever front speakers I buy, they will most likely be large enough for 80 crosss over setting. Do most receivers let you set different cross over setting for different speakers? Thanks.

Most receivers released in the last year or two have independent xover settings for each channel.

Receiver settings

Some receivers including most higher end models allow seperate cossover setting for the front, center, and surround channels. Look for "Independent crossover settings" or similar in the list of features. Most or all entry level receivers in the $2-300 price range do not have this feature. Worst case you can pick a crossover around 100 Hz and you wont miss much from the surround speakers.

Bose speakers have a 200 Hz gap in the frequency response between the cubes and the bass module and most people think they sound good!

The easiest solution for you would probably be getting a last year model mid-level receiver. If you do this you will save money buy not getting the "latest and greatest" and get far more features than you would likely be able to get at a given pricepoint as compared to the current gen of receivers.

An example of an older model receiver with this functionality would be the Denon 3806 you can find them for around $500 online which is a great price for such a receiver. This receiver has independent crossover settings, hdmi and all the crap most newer receivers have minus internal decoding of HD formats (so make sure if you want this your player decodes the formats).

Lastly, if you have any questions about a certain receivers abilities someone here will always be able to answer them.

I have nothing against Denon, but I have my eyes on three different models: Panasonic something55, Onkyo 705, or 805. The Panasonic, being a lifestyle receiver, would let me put it in tight space and out the sight. I don't know if it has independent crossover settings though. The Onkyo 705 and 805 has the latest technologies while not being too expensive. For some reason the 705 is never on sale. The 805 can be had for as little as $650 on sale.

I am pretty sure the 705 can do what you need while I know the 805 can because my dad has one and I set it up like that last week :). If you can find an 805 on sale for $650 it is a steal, my dad loves his and it seems like a great unit from the use I have had with it.
