That's a tough one without knowing what you want, what all gear has to fit and how much you want to spend.

It took me 6 months to finally find one that would fit my center channel.

Please give us more info.

You can get deals on some Salamander stuff at www.audioadvisor.com , but they still aren't inexpensive.

I bought one of my racks at racks & stands and I am very happy with it.

Another option: go to a reputable cabinetmaker, given an idea (usually a rough sketch or a photo of what interests you will do) and he'll be able to quote a price and estimated delivery. You'll also be able to spec materials and finish. To give you an idea, my HT credenza was designed by me, spec'd by me, it's 60 inches wide, 32 inches high and 24-3/4 inches deep, it's built from 3/4" plywood with natural quater-sawn cherry exterior with clear lacquer finish and clear lacquered natural blond maple interior, my cost 750.00

Nice. Sounds similar to mine minus the blond maple interior and the fact that mine is a bit less tall. Including the hutch and solid wood doors on the sides, all in it was $1336. Next time there will be no hutch so maybe I can hit the $750 mark too.

The Salmander designs do look pretty nice but the equivalent is the Sonoma and it starts at $1899. That's kinda steep.

The downside to custom...4-6 weeks wait.

Right, mine took 4 1/2 weeks, but after all is said and done it looks like a fine piece of custom furniture, it will last forever and it fits perfectly with the decor ( a big+ WAF!) I'll do it all over again with no reservations.

Yep and I'm doing it all over again very soon. Still stewing on dimensions but probably this weekend I'm going to go with the new design in hand and get the project started.

Maybe by the end of the year I'll actually be able to buy a TV and have somewhere to put it...haven't watched TV since early June.

I just purchased a credenza from Crate & Barrel... their 70" "Harmony" console (they also sell a 54" model, with more shelf space, and a 30" model with doors). The design is unique in that the back panels just pop right off, for easy wire access (I'm leaving them off altogether), and the front is a lattice design, offering great ventilation. Despite being manufactured in China, it seems VERY well made, and the WAF is +++++.

More info here...
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/search.aspx?query=harmony&DIMID=400994&ShowXItems=20

I also purchased the 30" cabinet, intending to use it for additional components. Unfortunately, their web description was WRONG as the back panel is NOT removeable, and it has a FIXED shelf, so that piece is going back.

Aside from A/V specific furniture manufacturers (Salamander Designs, StudioTech, and many others), most mainstream furniture stores are also carrying A/V credenzas/consoles with competitive pricing.

I hear that. I was looking at the Sonoma earlier this year, and I was interested in the smaller one, but that's $1299. I haven't convinced myself to spend that kind of money on a stand just yet.

I really didnt want to wait 4-6 weeks to have one built so instead I took 6 months to find one that would work...um...I dont think that saved me any time...

One of the members on here posted his system and I noticed he had a "big foot" center that fit in his credenza and his credenza was just about what we were looking for. I was shocked that it only cost 700 bucks and shipped for free. Seems like a nice piece and pretty solid at 190lbs. Now if I can just get it here in on piece!

But you are cheap;)

I think this one looks pretty good for the price. I dont know about the doors with the silver frame but we may keep those off or they may tie in well with the silver on my Emo and speaker stands.

I think it looks better with the doors.
But would you have enough ventilation with the doors on?

Mine (although only $150) looks better with the glass doors on, but I was afraid of inadequate air ventilation, so I left them off. Will your PS3 be in the Credenza or will it remain on the floor? I believe it has a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4, so it will run pretty hot.

I hope to put it all in the credenza but we will see.

I will have to decide if their is enough ventilation in that thing.

The PS3 has a cell processor not a regular PC CPU and heat can be an issue in an enclosed area. The fans on mine run constantly on low, but I have removed the back of my unit and the sides are perforated steel for air flow.
