thanks for responding !

i'm looking for a plus minos 500$ speakers set. i want 5.1
room size : 4.5X5 meter.

and i really don't know a lot of speakers types.

size doesnt matter.

just know that i will use the comuter only for hearing music and watching DVD's.

sound quality is really important and of course that it will be fully compatible with my Creative X-fi XtremeMusic Sound Card !!!

So floor-standing speakers would be ok? or are you looking for something that fits on top of your computer desk? Do you want to wall-mount them?

Ok if I am understanding what this card does, it looks like you have line out on all channels, so compatibility is not really an issue. You also don't have to worry about a receiver, but you do need an amp of some sort. Some receivers will work as an amp as well.

So you are just looking for an amp and a set of 5.1 speakers in the $500 range for a smallish room?

Not necessarily. I guess that is kinda my point with the questions. I'm not sure what he is looking for. Technically I don't think he's limited to PC speaker sets, but I agree the search would be a lot simpler if he did. Maybe we should just send him to BestBuy :)

Well, anyone who knows anything about Creative sound cards is that they don't like putting Coax and Optical jacks on the back. So for him to run a 5.1 receiver off it would require a crappy 3.5mm to RCA jack.

It would almost make more sense to buy a really good PC speaker set that can fill his room. Also, he's not going to get much in in the Home theater world with 500 bucks. It would be better spent on a good PC set.

www.logitech.com - Bang for the buck.

www.Creative.com - Good overall sound quality.

www.klipsch.com - Best subwoofer (dual 8inch drivers).

doesn't matter to me if they will be wall-mounted or as floor-standing. what's batter ?

i don't care buying a receiver or an amp if needed. will the amp/receiver damage what the creative sound card does on my audio ?

i really want to make my PC the multimedia center of my room. ( i will also use my vidoe card "TV Out" and watch on a big TV. but listening to music will be mostly the use.

i don't care to put even 900$ on a good speakesrs+amp/receiver

We need a maximum budget before we can really make recomendations. First you said 500, which is not alot for reciver and speakers, and now we have 900.

What is the limit? The room is also quite large. You're going to need a fairly big subwoofer and efficient speakers to fill that.

There are a few options

First, you could buy one of those ONKYO Home theater in a box setups. Although most HTIB's aren't that well , the onkyo is actually decent and sounds better than speakers that costed more than it.

http://www.onkyousa.com/prod_class.cfm?class=Systems

They have various models depending on what you want,

Im pretty sure all the 7.1 models having multi channel in.

An alternative, depending on your budget is to go www.svsound.com and purchase the svs sbs-01 7.1 system as recommended in forums in tomshardware and other home theater forums, as well as audioholics.com.

Since, the svs comes with a subwoofer you are all set, the only thing you'll need is a receiver or amplifer, a decent receiver for a small to midsized room should cost 200-400$ such as one of the onkyo's.

Make sure you look for 7.1 multi-channel in.

Then your all set, if you don't know how to connect the system then I'll let you know, Ill post the details, BTW

Im have used the x-fi with home theater speakers.

Whoops, my mental math skills are leaving me.

Any of the above mentions PCsets will suffice. The SVS set will work too, but you'll need a review which will push it north of 1 grand.

Pc sets aren't really that good

By pc sets you are referring to the z-5500-logitech, gigaworkss750-creative, and the promedia 5.1 by klipsch.

Those pc sets don't come within a mile, or anywhere near quality sound. Its okay for gaming, but I found out that a $80 sennheiser headphone set sounds much better.

If you have to buy one of them., the gigaworks s750 and the klipsch are better in sound, but the logitech's are more reliable.

A note of caution: Some people have reported that their creative and klipsch units break down and that they are a pain to deal with to get it fixed. Reasons cited are high costs, out of warranty charges, not being fixed the first time, example, being charged $200 to fix the gigaworks s750.

Your betting off getting the onkyo set for $400 or better yet the svs, which carries a 3 year warranty and is more reliable by people who KNOW speakers and subwoofers.

I used to own the Klipsch Ultra 5.1 system and I got rid of it after a month because I hated it. A lot of people say that the Ultra 5.1 sounds better than the Logitech Z-5500, and if it actually does, then the Z-5500 must sound terrible.

If you're as neurotic as I am you would rather spend your money on a decent amp and some good bookshelves. That would get you the farthest in terms of detailed sound. However some people just don't care enough to spend more than a few hundred on these kinds of things. That's perfectly fine. You don't sound very sure of what you want and the only way to find out is by listening.

I think you should just go with the svs

SVS is giving away a promition for their svs svs-01 system I BELIEVE.

I would suggest a 5.1 or 7.1 system with an amp such as the onkyo txrs(the latest ones).

That should fit your budget around $1,000-1300 and it wouldn't be just for the computer, you could use with dvd players, playsations, wii's, xbox's cable tv, and other uses.
