Cream at Royal Albert Hall DVD

Maybe this should go into the DVD section but I'm here to talk more about the music than the video..although even on standrad def dvd and up converted, this looks really sweet.

This band was phenomenal and inspired alot of groups; one of them being Led Zeppelin. I'm most impressed with Bruce Jack's bass ability. It was real treat to watch this and here the recordings. I think this one of the better live recordings I've heard.

Did they use this for their Keyboards! No midi connection I suppose.

Good intentions there buddy but it wasn't Cream (inspring Led Zep) but rather the Yardbirds...

I have this DVD. It's phenominal. What's even greater was that Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton were able to get together - though, they've all had their differences since Cream split up years and years ago.

I think what impressed me the most was Jack Bruce's bass guitars. Man, those fret boards are long on his guitars. Either that, or he's just a small man.

You can still see the animosity towards Eric Clapton from Jack Bruce. To me Cream was always Eric Clapton not Jack Bruce, although Cream was Bruce's Band.

I thought that was the case, too. However, I'm sure Clapton's drug use was sure to cause some contention. Not sure if the other two were using at the same time, though.

If you have some time here's a cool interview with NYC guitarist Godfrey Townsend. He's a very good guitarist and a heck of a nice guy to boot. He's recorded and toured with both John Entwistle and Jack Bruce. In the interview he talks quite a but about both legendary bassists.

i never was a CREAM fan. but this was FAN-TAS-TIC !!!!!!!!!
it was/is soooo good, it brought a tear to my eye.

This is certainly one of the most played concerts in my collection. Cream has never sounded better IMO. And I mean that from a performance AND sound quality perspective.

Some guy on AVS was *****ing over the sound of this DVD but I think he's full of BS! What do you guys think?

the quality of what i saw on paladia was top notch ! all the way around.

in fact, because of this thread. i have begun looking for a music disc to get my blood flowing. currently, i am really diggin 80's hair bands, the hard stuff. but, i don't what to TERRORIZE my neighbors,so i am going to buy something like this. high SQ that doesn't want to "rip your face off" sound.

I was not really making a point, just teasing you.

However it seems to me that a concert like you described under that towing instrument, the largest in the British Isles is certainly ironic.

That instrument, recently restored, is the masterpiece of of nineteenth century British Organ builder Father Willis.

I just wonder which keyboards can create the softest, largest and cleanest SPL. I think it would be down to Father Willis.

In sheer dynamic range and distortion, we talk about so often, Father Willis would be the clear technology winner.

When it comes to eye candy there is just no contest.

I'm actually surprised to find the instrument is actually used by rock bands!

I've not yet heard a large Pipe Organ like you've described. I've heard some smaller ones and I quite enjoyed them but I would really like to sit down and listen to Bach's Tocatta (spelling is way wrong I realize) from a large pipe organ...so that I can feel and hear the notes.
