Crazy 24 hours.....

Well I have had a stupid couple of hours. My wife flew our cat out yesterday to me in LA. I got her home and she hid for 4 hours and then started to make herself at home. This morning I get up and shower,I get out of the shower and the cat is gone.....Ok I am feaking at this point as there is only so many places she could go....I tear the house apart and find out 1 of my livingroom windows the screen is popped out...OH S*** I think...So I go looking calling shaking her food(she is an inside cat with no front claws and hates being outside) I figured that would get her to come but nothing. So I am totally distressed called my wife and she FREAKED on me:eek: So at this point I am bumming super hard and decide to lay down for a sec as I am starting to feel sick to my stomach.Well an hour passes and I roll over and there she is in the kitchen. She had come in the back door I left open for her......WWWHHHOOO HOOOO people I was crushed for 2 hours and then she comes back. I could not be happier right now......just had to vent....I was starting to wonder if me killing a rattlesnake yesterday in my neighbors yard was coming back to haunt me. I guess it all began yesterday morning when I was getting ready to leave for the airport to pick up my cat. The dog next store was going off and I decided to look and see if something was wrong,so I go out and there she is in the back yard barking at a huge 5 foot diamondback rattlesnake. I called for her owners really loud and they didn't answer so I got her over near the fence to my yard and started yelling my neighbors name full volume as I really love their golden retriever Annie. Rick comes out the front door and I start yelling at him to get back here and grab Annie.Turns out he is so scared of snakes he can't even move:eek: His wife comes out the back with a shovel and hands it to me:eek: So I just jumped the fence and swung full force with the shovel, chopped him in half and the mouth side was still coming at me so I nailed him again and stomped his head flat...Really weird as I am a snake lover as well as all animals and felt terrible about killing such a beautiful creature. The dog was going to get bit though if I didn't do something so I guess I was right for killing it.It just makes me feel like I had some bad karma hanging over my head or something. I am now a hero to my neighbors and my cat came home so all in all I guess it worked out. I have been a wreck though for the last 2 hours..was karma getting me or is this just a S*** Happens kind of situation. Just had to vent sorry ......hope everyone is having a better day than I was until a little while ago...

Think of it this way - by killing the snake you probably saved the life of your cat, too.

Rattlers suck. The smaller ones are much more poisonous than the large ones. The fangs are still lethal even after death for a very, very long time.

You should have good karma coming your way. You know the dog would probably have gotten injured or died from the bite. You saved your neighbors dog!
I'm glad your kitty came home. If you notice any signs of ninja training, check with Dave.

the cat was just looking over the damage you did to the snake ... :)

no karma, you're still the hero for the golden ret and your cat :D with great powers come great responsibility. who knows, if you didn't whack that snake then, it could come back against your cat someday :)

edit: crap. two posts while i was composing this message. anywho.

Yeah I still feel bad for killing it but I had to or Annie would have been bitten...

Sometimes in life you have to make choices which are hard to deal with, or understand. You weren’t purposely looking for an excuse to kill an animal - you realized an opportunity to save one. :)

You did well. To be perfect you would have to find a way to save them all. Easily said than done ;)

Now expect some knocks on the door for the occasional rat or cockroach :D

Just can't live a nice calm normal life can you?:p

You did the right thing, Jamie. The animal kingdom understands survival of the fittest and kill or be killed.

The dog and your cat are grateful that they have a protector in their pack.

Glad you got your cat back.

I've never been a cat person, but if I were to lose our cat I'd be crushed. She's decided that she's my cat, not my girlfriend's as planned. :D

I'm not feeling bad for the snake. Better him than the dog. I'd be equally crushed if something happened to one of the dogs.

As far as I'm concerned you're a hero.

Wow! Quite a story. It sounds like you spent your whole monthly quota of adrenalin all at once.

This part really gets me:
So I just jumped the fence and swung full force with the shovel, chopped him in half and the mouth side was still coming at me so I nailed him again and stomped his head flat...
I hope you don't rerun that too often in your dreams .

Don't worry about the kharma -- after all that your cat did come back ;). It would have been bad kharma if your cat never returned.

Jamie, I'm very happy that your cat came back and was okay. That must have been very frightening. I would be beside myself if Niki ran off.

Yeah I still feel bad for killing ...
That is some powerful bad ju-ju ...

You could have picked it up with your bare hands like I've seen them
do on the Discovery channel and made kissy faces at it ... :D

I think you should mercilessly tease the chicken sh!t neighbor about
snakes from here on in. ;)

It isn't karma man, like you said, s**t happens, and sometimes it is happening to you. I got concerned the other day too when my cat was nowhere to be found. When I got home, I found him locked in our room because he was hiding under the bed. I was worried because the week before, my son left his window open and we found the cat crying at the back door with no idea that he was even gone.

I would probably have done the same thing, I am 99.99% sure.

But, hindsight is 20/20.

If in a similar situation, I would put a box or laundry hamper over the snake and then call 911. They would probably bring along someone who handles snakes and move it to a safe (for snake and others) location.

Probablity of me doing the box/911 deal if I was in your situation, 0.00001.

I hate insects and kill them all the time (when they offend my personal bubble which is 10 miles for them :D). It's all good since I am an athiest .

I like snakes too, but if there is any question of anyone's safety or life, then I would do the same as you Jamie.

Jeesh man you just don't go for boring.

Congrats on getting your cat back! I think you were justified in taking out the snake. I'm one for live and let live but that was a situation you could not let go. I'm sure all involved are very glad you stepped up.

Now take it easy and go have some kushy stuff.;)

A cat lived. A snake died. All is right with the world.:D

I'm not so sure I would have the cojones to go head to head with a poisonous snake, even armed with a shovel. There's a whole lot that can go wrong with that scenario. I'm more happy to hear that you came out unscathed.

I swear it wasn't Cojones that made me do it. I didn't really even think about it I just reacted quickly. I am sure most people would of done the same thing being in that position........

No Jamie, you went completely ape sh!t on that snake. First that pesky dog starts barking it's head off at it then a shovel wielding maniac flies across the fence and chops it in half before crushing it's head. The poor snake probably thought you were gonna clock the dog with that shovel to teach it to mind it's own business but NOOOO ... not in this reptilian version of The Twilight Zone.

Jamie,
I’m glad to hear you found the cat…or the cat found you.:D
As far as the snake goes; you just did what you had to do. No bad Karma there.

That is some powerful bad ju-ju ...

Hey Alex, next time don’t wear the white socks.
