I am getting crackling in one surround channel on my receiver but it does not seem to be with every speaker i plug into it...

Heres my setup:
Denon 530bt
Kef q150 fronts
Klipsch r41m rears
(Tried with subwoofer and without)

I did the following troubleshooting:

Switched both rear channels, left still crackles -> i.e. channel is the problem ?
But then i tried a kef on the crackling channel and the crackling was gone...

So both klipsch's crackle on the left channel but kefs dont...
Raising db on the channel worsened the crackling.
Klipsch's have no problems when on front channels.

What could the problem be ? Is there something different in the hardware of the speakers that makes the Kef not crackle ? Is there a setting on my receiver that i could play with ?

Don't know for sure, but I would look carefully at the binding posts.
The Klipsch have that in common and they may be different enough than the Kefs to be causal.

I tried different wires, both speakers, all channels and it really seems like its the receiver

Have you tried a reset (soft and hard) on the receiver?

Are you trying all four speakers on the "bad" channel? Changing cabling as well? Doesn't make a lot of sense one speaker has an issue and another doesn't on a particular channel....

Only klipschs crackle and only on the one channel. So it must be some problem with power since the kefs are 8 ohm and the klipsch 4 ohm i think.

I just turned on the ECO mode on the receiver and it seems to be fixed... not sure why..

Did you ever try the resets XEagleDriver suggested? The two speakers are probably closer in impedance behavior than different, both are rated nominal 8 ohm but both dip in the 4 ohm territory, the Klipsch perhaps a bit lower per the tests at ASR, altho I could only find a Q100 rather than the Q150 for a measurement.

Yeah i did a factory reset and that didnt seem to be what fixed it

That means your receiver is on the way out. ECO mode reduces the rail voltage to the power amps by 1/3, and so the power is cut by 50%.

So, what is happening is that there is a component in that power amp not tolerating the full rail voltage, this is most likely one of the power transistors.

This story is very bad news for your receiver, which needs service or replacement.

Makes sense... i just bought the receiver second hand so that kinda sucks. Ill probably just run it for a while until it completely gives out.

Look for one of those receivers on eBay parts or repair, and swap a power amp board over. There are none available at present and as usual there do not seem to be new ones available either.

Specs on that receiver are 75 watts with only two channels driven, so that will be only 37.5 watts to channels driven now. So be careful not to clip and damage tweeters.

Personally I would just ditch the surrounds for now.
