Been at a restaurant for seven years, but when the -- outweigh the + it's time to start looking. I use to think it was great, but in hindsight the problem has always been upper mgmt runs the business from the office. Cuts had to be made because the company lost $250K. However, even if the majority of your position is admin, you're still doing a lot by taking a few quick trips around the restaurant to keep an eye on things. More important by being visible it's kind of helping to reduce the phone usage because you're around. But here it's like upper mgmt is nearly non-existent. The GM of the back of the house is so for a least two of the restaurants. Makes a stop in to the computer to check the numbers and is pretty much gone after that. Sure there's a FOH GM. He's good in the sense he's visible. (The verdict is out on his skills.) There's a chef, but even then it feels like the employees are running it and not mgmt. The key to hiring dependable employees is it runs itself when mgmt isn't present but not to mean so you as mgmt don't have to be present. I'm utility, and its even worse at the one location I go to for cleaning. There was a lake of water in the dish area no one decided to mop up. Yanno cause no one cares. They'd just walk through the water and put there dirty dishes there. You'll be out of TP in the one stall and no one bother to go get some from next door. Steel scrubbers are not ordered. Coffee for the employees hasn't been ordered for weeks. Generally there isn't a team vibe. More like people ask for help but never return the favor. Rather sad really. I remember overhearing the BOH GM saying something along the lines of Well do we wanna keep this thing going??? An odd thing to say regarding the restaurant. The OM and I'll call her formerGMwhoisinsalesnowbutisuppermgmt will stop in the restaurant, have their operations mtg, and are gone. Nobody really IMO quite knows what's going on beyond the numbers. It feels like they've become more scarce so it's possible something is going on but not sure. I use to contact mgmt all the time about orders and what not that weren't placed but am burned out. For the meantime about all I can do is do my job until I can find something else. But I don't get the feeling upper mgmt, or the owner, are invested in this place. Anyhow, that's my feelings on it. I know this isn't the only place. There's a lot of business' out there that just sort of get established and run themselves. I just can't continue to be a part of it.
