Could I or Should I add a second Subwoofer ?

I am starting get sound greedy. I think I had read before about folks adding a second subwoofer to their system. But that is all I remember from it.

1. Is this desirable and doable? I happen to love tons of low tones.

2. Would it be best to match the second sub to my existing one ? I mean, lets say I have a good quality 350 watt sub, would it be OK to add a good quality 500 watt sub ?

3. How would the connection work. I'm not sure where the second one would plug into? If the processor's sub preout is already occupied, then ??
I don't think I could make any logical use out of some other existing unoccupied pre-outs. Do they have receivers with 2 sub preouts or something?

4. Any other tips if I try to do this.
Thanks !

If you have the room dual subs is the way to go, it's a bit more complicated to set up but usually give you a flatter frequency response(room dependent of course) and more headroom.

Here in this Subwoofer setup guide(PDF file) Bossobass explains in detail how to setup different sub configurations.

Is there any recommendation on placement. I think for now the second sub would have to be near the existing one. One on each side of my audio cabinet. I am running out of options in the room regarding placement and shudder to even think about running more wires. Just finished my in-wall speaker wire job and need closure on that.

You can just use an RCA splitter(Y connector) out of the sub-out.
Also by just using a Y-connector - does that diminish signal or anything ?

Fixed it

I can't get the PDF file to link so it just takes you to the web page that the file is on. You can download it from there if you want.

Read up on that link and the one in my sig, those explain it much better than I can.

I don't believe it will, it's a low level connection.

Adding a second sub will really add punch to the sound. You can stack them or place it on the other side of the room, though locating the second can be a bit tricky, it is well worth it. I can't begin to tell you how much of a difference a second sub made for me. The lows aren't really any louder, just much fuller and encompassing. The difference was similar to when I upgraded my old 8" sub to a 12" sub.
