My computer is not close to my AVR.

And my computer doesn't have HDMI.
Oh, Ethernet cable. Now that I've never done.

I only use HDMI cables.

So why are you using ethernet cables, intead of HDMI?

Because your PC doesn't have HDMI?:D

So what's the consensus, download WinAMP or Tversity, transfer a couple of CDs and see if the "pop" goes away and that my AVR sees the files?

Tversity or VLC Player. I never heard of winamp doing dlna/audio streaming

Hummm...I downloaded Tversity and I couldn't find my music so I dumped it. I then downloaded Twonky and it had all my music loaded and shows my Denon AVR on the "play here" screen.

Let me jack around with it and then I am sure I will have a lot of questions.

No "pop" between the first 2 songs I have listened to.

I haven't tried streaming to AVR yet.

I'm coming into this late but my observation using FLACs is that not all rippers are created equal. I have 3-4 rips from my personal CD collection that have static. No pops, just static. I'll probably rerip those using dbpoweramp and hope it's less susceptible to errors. Anyway maybe this will give you something else to look at.

Sorry to leave you chained up all nite Dawg:D Twonky uses very little resources and is imho the best for serving. Twonky does FLAC and other lossless formats, so ditch the WMP:) And are you using EAC for ripping?

What is EAC and dbpoweramp? I just pop the CD in and WMP comes up and downloads the CD into WAV.

I've found cdex to be a great cd ripping program, it can also query the cd database and properly id tag your ripped files. You can download it for free from download.com

EAC is exact audio copy, and dbpoweramp is a program that converts audio files to different formats. If you are ripping to .mp3, I would suggest using VBR (variable bit rate), and use the LAME encoder.
