Correct distance from main speakers to center channel?

I never thought of this before and I have no idea why. It's there a right, or minimum/maximum main speakers should be from the center channel? It's there a right or wrong?

More a matter of positioning the L/R IMO, if they're positioned well for a single seat some even prefer no center, too. I tend to prefer the center myself, but do like my L/R to be as far apart as I am from the L/R speakers (equilateral triangle), but that depends on the room/seating you can accommodate.

It's I push the left JBL 570 to the left more it will be close the side wall which is probably not a great idea. The right 570 now that I look at it is probably almost a foot closer the center channel. I have to run Audyssey again in a few weeks when the Xmas tree comes down so I think I will actually measure it and get them both the exact distance from the center channel. Thanks for the info and insight.

I like to sit a little further back than the distance between the Mains.
My understanding is that the mixing engineers sit in an equilateral triangle as that arrangement give the best way to hear the separation between L and R. Sitting a little further back in an isosceles triangle allows for a blending of that hard-stereo separation.

Regardless...
More to the point of your question, the Center should just be, well, centered... between your L and R.
Depending on your room and seating distance, I would say an absolute minimum distance would be with the mains 6' apart on center (middle of front baffle to middle of front baffle, L and R).
Most will say that 6' is far too narrow, and I would agree, except that you still have to take into account what your space allows.
8 or 9' apart is more likely the optimum distance for most, especially, if like me, you don't jam speakers right up against side walls. I like at least 2' between Speaker and side walls, and more if possible.
IIRC, I've seen a few argue for more distance still between L and R mains. I think TLS recommends 12'(?) if possible.

Again, so much is dependent on your space. We all have to make the best use of what we have.

It's not the distance from the center to the L/R particularly, tho.....level adjustments can take care of small imbalances. Sometimes you just need a bigger room :)

My 11x15' room... *shakes head
I'd give anything for a 13x18' room. ;)

Yeah I'd like a bit wider rooms myself....e.g. in my living room my L/R are a bit closer together due to the limitation of room width, so I am also more like you with the listening position a bit further back than an equilateral triangle for my current seating/layout....and someday if I change couch maybe I could play with that some more, but due the layout of the room and other furniture and a fireplace....just the compromise I had to make. I did put the display/center speaker smack in the middle, tho but I wouldn't want either L/R speaker any further apart due walls....

Heck I'm just talking in general....an appropriately dimensioned and sealed off theater space would be nice....but just not going to happen in this house....
