Why is this news?

Maybe I'm missing something. I see two girls pushing around a cop, and then they push harder, one pushes him back, and he punches her and arrests them. I mean, it's not like these girls were cooperating and its not like there is a graceful way to handle that. He used just enough force to arrest the girl. He didn't like keep beating her. The girl was still fighting while she was getting handcuffed.

Sorry, had to vent that. Am I missing something here?

You're not missing anything. The Police Officer did nothing wrong, and responded within the use of force spectrum. The two morons were pushing him and grabbing him (actively resisting). Unfortunately, there wasn't one "Right" way to handle this situation.

I'm sure he could have used a different tactic, but any tactic would have looked bad in this scenario. What a lot of people don't understand is Police don't match force with the same level of force. Police are trained to use a higher level of force then that of the suspect.

It pisses me off that a lot of people will see this and say that was Police Brutality. The term gets overused and abused all the time.

Punching is better than a taser, but maybe he could have punched her in the gut instead of the face. Bones are hard.

Yeah, why should he have to hurt his own hand. A stomache punch would have likely been just as affective and his hand probably wouldn't hurt.

In situations like those you have to expect the officer to react quickly. You don't have time to think about where you are going to hit the suspect, you just react.

That was a wrestling punch clearly meant to shock the woman not inure her. With those arms that dude could have done far worse.

Especially with new case law that says Taser deployment with the darts is right below lethal force...craziness.

I would have pushed her to the ground, or an arm-bar takedown would have done the trick. Maybe even a lil pimp slap lol...

Seriously, I have no life.
He should have given her a flying lesson. A hard landing would have calmed her down.

Yeah Mace and tazers hurt more and for longer period of time. That "punch" was more of a "wake up" call and got her attention. I just hope that when this 17 year old got home, her folks put a proper "beating" on her. Cause if I punched a cop as a teen, my old man would have beaten me far worse than any cop could.

It's called respect and one thing I learned you may not agree with the officer but you should respect the badge.

Photograph ... record ... testify ... but shut the f^%& up while I arrest these two *****.
(that one is so bad that I'm not risking it)

You think women can't fight? That guy was in danger and probably scared. They sure as sh!t weren't afraid of him but overall I can't stand cops. Seems like the feeling is mutual but at least I know enough not to get punched in the face.

Shame on you ... I wasn't going to use the eff word anymore.
Look what you made me do. :D

I have watched some of the most hardcore gangbangers here call a police officer sir, why? because even they know you don't mess with a Chicago cop it's the quickest way to get a beatdown. This girl had it coming she is lucky that's all she got had she but her hands on a cop here, she better have given her heart to Jesus because her a** would have belonged to the cop.

For sure, the cop was in the right in this situation. When people break the law and a police officer catches them, they should be polite and respectful and get it over with, they definitely should NOT push or grab the cop or touch him/her at all. I was just saying that if there are people around recording or photographing what's going on and not causing any trouble, they should be left alone.

A study was being done to see which agency had the best ability in tracking down an alleged perpetrator so they got the FBI, the CIA and the Providence Police Department to try to find a rabbit in the woods.

The CIA used satellites with heat sensitive imaging to try to track a rabbit down.
After 3 days they had nothing and gave up.

The FBI sent a squadron of field agents into the woods to flush out a rabbit.
After 3 days they had nothing and gave up.

Two Providence cops went into the woods and in two hours they came out clubing this hand cuffed bear who was yelling, "Alright !!! I'm a rabbit, I'm a rabbit, I'm a rabbit !!!"

If that is in response to the person shooting the video and talking crap to the Officer, then you don't know the law!

First off, the comments he was making to the Police Officer while the Officer was attempting to take the moron into custody and the close proximity he (the video recorder) was in, was enough to be arrested for Delaying or Obstructing a Peace Officer of his Duties....which equals an arrest. It was obviously agitating the suspect, which in turn she continued to resist and the Officer was still attempting to take the moron into custody.

Secondly, the guy who originally recorded the punch has every right to video record the incident (as long as the don't resist, obstruct or delay an officer of his duty); However, his phone can be taken for evidence. The video becomes evidence because it shows the crime(s). (Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Peace Officer).

I don't know what video you were watching...looked like the Person Recording was messing with the Police Officer!!! You got it a$$ backwards!

I think you should calm down and read my posts again. I didn't say anything about protecting morons who talk noise to the police while they're doing their jobs. I said people merely recording or photographing the police have the legal right to do so as long as they aren't causing any trouble. I was responding to these two:

Hahahaha. This made me laugh out loud. I was thinking the same thing. Look at all the people in the background with cameras too.
There's always someone with a camera that thinks they're righteous.

Thats why you quote posts you are replying to :)

Did you read the first sentence of what I wrote?

"If that is in response to the person shooting the video and talking crap to the Officer, then you don't know the law!"

I then addressed as as if it were....the only thing I would do differently is write after first sentence, "and if it is, then..."

I don't recall you saying, "as long as they aren't causing trouble." If you did, then I overlooked it. I don't see anything wrong with it, and I would agree with that statement. UPDATE: I now see it in POST 15....sorry about that ;)

I didn't see any Cops messing with people in the video. Since you didn't quote anyone in your original post, it appeared you were responding to the video.
