Control volume on headphones plugged to CD player

I everyone.
I wonder if you can give me a solution for my problem; maybe a newbie case :

My receiver is broken. Until I'll get the money to buy a new one, I thought I could just plug my headphones to my CD player.

The problem is that the volume is really too high : Of course, I can't control
the volume.

Can you tell me if there is any "headphones volume control" device which I could plug to the headphones plug of my CD player.... then plug my headphones to it ?

If it doesn't exist, any suggestion of solution, other than buying a new receiver, would be welcome!!!

An in-line volume control would probably work if you can turn it down low enough. Something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=42-2559
