Connection question

Hello,

I'm the happy owner of a A/V Denon AVR 3805, with Whaferdale evo 40, 10 and Center, a DVD player Pioneer DV 565A-S and a Monitor Sharp LCD 30HV4E.

I connected the Digital Audio from the DVD player to the Coax 1 Digital 1 of the 3805 A/V.

I have two questions :

1) Do you think I need to connect the Analog output Audio MultiChannel 5,1 of the DVD to the EXT. IN of the 3805 A/V ?
If so, what is the benefit of it ?

2) So far, the TV is connected to the DVD player with a Peritel Scart.
Should I remove it and use a Component cable between the DVD and the 3805 and a Component cable between the 3805 and the TV ?

Sorry for these naive questions, but i'm new in this field....

I am not sure if the 565A is a universal player in which case you would need to use the 5.1 analog connection to the receiver analog input to enjoy Hi-RES DVD-A and SACD. They won't be fed via digital coax. If not, I would think the digital coax is sufficient.

Using the digital connection bypasses the digital processing DAC cirucits of your player and routes the digital signals to your Denon's digital processing circuits.

I am not familiar with the European SCART but the 3-cable component connection is universally preffered if you have them. Progressive scan mode viewing can then be enjoyed.

What country do you live in, FredBack? Just curious- SCART is of course a standard in the UK (and elsewhere) but little known here. I believe that if you can use the component output you'll get better video than with SCART, but I think it's roughly equivelent to our S-Video.

If you're asking if you should use the analog or digital outputs, that does of course depend on whether or not you plan to listen to CDs & DVDs or SACD & DVD-A. The latter can't be passed digitally by any cheap, universal output. For Dolby Digital or DTS movies (or regular CDs) you'll be well served by connecting the player to your receiver via the Toslink or coax digital inputs. HiRez audio will generally require using the 5.1 channel analog inputs.

One additional note. You might want to also connect the analog audio cables from the dvd player to the receiver. Zone2 will only output analog signals and you can only record analog signals. If you do neither, then the digital connection is all you need.

Here's some confirmations of earlier advises and also some new ones from me, a DV565A owner:

1. SCART is standard in many European countries. It carries Composite, S-Video and RGB. If TV handles it (setup adjustment normally needed), RGB is the best of these three formats.

2. DV565A has 3 RCA jacks for Component video. On this output progressive scan is available, but only as NTSC (I think it can convert PAL to progressive NTSC too). Try this if your TV is compatible, it's theoretically better than RGB. If TV does not handle progressive scan, it will go black. Solution: turn off DV565A, wait few seconds and then unplug it.

3. S/PDIF (I personally prefer coaxial before optical) should be fine for CD and Movies. DD and DTS decoding as well as bass management is surely much better in your Denon.

4. For SACD and DVD-A the 5.1 analogue interconnect is imperative. I strongly suggest giving Hi-rez a chance. DV565A is by many considered THE outstanding best-bang-for-the-buck among low-end multiformat players.

Thank you so much for these advices.
I'm still working on the Denon configuration Inputs (I'm a computer guy, buy for this baby, you need to be a Electronician, specially with such a bad doc...), because I can't declare both DVD and CD as having the same digital input COAX1 !...
So, still working on it. I'm leaving today to take some vacations, and I have to leave it for 15 days after just having received it and not being finished with the setup...
