Connection of Sat Receiver to DVD Recorder via Receiver

Oh boy ... I'm really in a tangled mess now that I have recently purchased a new Toshiba DVD recorder. I can't connect this thing for my life ... I'm not sure if I have overcomplicated things, am expecting the unobtainable, or just simply technically illiterate.

The components ...
1) Pansat 2500a satellite receiver
2) Yamaha RX-V530
3) Toshiba D-R4SC DVD Recorder
4) Toshiba 57HX83 Projection TV

Before the DVDR came into the picture, I connected my sat receiver to my TV via the receiver S-VHS cable and RCA l/r. I was able to select an input on the receiver to direct the audio signals out my stereo, and the video signal to my projection TV, giving me good picture, and good sound.

So, with the DVD recorder, where do I put it. I want to continue watching my satellite via the reciever, but obviously would like to be able to record a satellite signal as well.

I'm sorry if my description hasn't been very detailed, but I don't know how complicated my explanation of different connections would make things. If anyone would like to help, I will gladly appreciate any input. I can work with individuals one-on-one if it is in the best interests of this forum.

So prior to purchasing the dvd recorder you had something like this:

- Analog L(white)/R(red) audio cables from sat receiver to receiver video1 input. [Just using video1 as an example, can be any a/v input]
- S-Video video cable from sat receiver to receiver video1 input.
- Receiver s-video monitor out to TV

Now connect the dvd recorder using the same connections to an a/v output on the receiver. There is usually at least one a/v ouput on the receiver and the receiver can send it any audio or video that comes in from the other inputs.

Let's say it is video2:
Analog audio cables from receiver video2 out to dvd recorder audio in.
s-video video cable from receiver video2 out to dvd recorder video in.

With the dvd recorder connected to the receiver, you have the flexibility to record things other than the satellite if you connect something else to the receiver later.

Thank you!!!

Thank you MDS for your guidance ... you gave me the push in the right direction, and I think I have it now.

SAT out to DVD Recorder IN (line1) via RCA and S-VHS
DVD Recorder out to Receiver IN via component video and optical audio.
Receiver OUT to TV via component video.

This allows me to watch what I am recording only from the SAT. And, to watch the satellite only, I have to watch it through the DVD Recorder (line 1). If I could split the S-VHS cable, I could branch video and audio at the satellite and send a separate feed to the receiver for the SAT only. But, no one has been able to supply me a S-VHS split cable.

The hookup you chose is an alternative that I would have suggested if you couldn't get my first option to work. :)

The only downside to that approach is that you can only record from the sat receiver because the recorder is between the sat receiver and the a/v receiver. (The receiver only sees the dvd recorder as a source).

You would have to consult the manual for how to record from one input to one of the outputs, but it should work with one caveat - most receivers will not send digital audio out one of the a/v outputs, so you would have to use analog connections.
